What about the liar who lies about his lying and lies that he lies?
They were squeamish about calling liars liars? I used to be able to find a clip of it on YouTube but had no luck just now, but there is a wonderful scene in the movie "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" where Paul Newman, who has angered a group of women by referring to them as "your whores" to their menfolk to the point where they are in a stagecoach ready to leave town, so he goes up to them to apologize by telling them "I apologize for calling you whores, but you will note that I did not call you..." and then launches into a stream of invective that began with "calloused assed gutter sluts"...
So it's not just courage these media creatures are lacking, it's also creativity.
