Never underestimate the Republican party's capacity to continually recycling its losers. Over there, the dead don't die. They just exit the stage and take lessons in how to better appeal to the base by appearing more human (Nixon) or more aggressively anti-government (Reagan) or more severely conservative (Romney) or less hostile to the hardcore Conservative evangelical base (McCain).
Then -- bingo! -- there they are. Resurrected. Reborn. Republican. And so much worse than their first time around the track because now they have got it though their heads what the base really wants and they give it to 'em, raw and red..
