One small quibble: Kevin isn't gerrymandered into his seat, we have an independent commission draw our maps (5D, 5R, 4 no party preference). Apparently folks in Bakersfield are just batshit crazy all on their own. The next district over used to elect Devin Nunes, and here, one more district over, we have Tom the fuck McClintock...
It's kinda CaliTucky out here in the hinterlands.
We are working on moving to southern Humboldt county where we will have an honest to gawd Democrat as a representative.
Bobert is fucking lame. Having grown up in Humboldt county, my friends and I had it figured out how to get stoned in movies and shows without getting caught by the time we were sixteen. As I recall, it involved being careful not to piss off anyone who might rat you out.
I was seven in '68, but I remember it pretty well. I even remember saying something about the media coverage when the January 6 insurrection was happening and all I was getting was "reports" that some sort of violence was occurring at the Capitol. "What, do they think this is '68 or some such horse shit?" I was heard to say. The difference there was that this go around Twitter existed and specifically, Black Twitter, where one could find real time video of the attack. Not all of those tweets have held up well, though, as I recall some of them accusing the Capitol police of assisting the rioters, when it just looked that way due to their being extremely outnumbered.
My dad, who was born in Oklahoma in the '30s, thought those damn hippies got what was coming to them. My brother, who was 18, didn't agree.
Thank you again for the podcast. Briana is down in the Bay Area preparing things for our upcoming move, and it's just me and the cat holding down the fort.
