The wind is blowing out of the south/southeast. Not too strong, but strong enough to feed oxygen to the Oak fire, which is about ten miles away and has blown up to something like 9,500 acres. Since it is northwest of here, the wind is at least not blowing it our way.
The other two wildfires within ten miles of here, the Washburn fire (the one right next to the Mariposa grove of ancient redwoods) and the Agua fire, have both been contained past 70%. So even though this morning the sunlight was blood red and there was fine ash falling like snowflakes, the air is clear now and I managed to get in my daily walk up to the Old Mill Pond.
Perhaps Joe Manchin will trip and accidentally drown in a bucket of weasel piss.
Perhaps he will wait until we elect three or four more Democratic senators thi8s fall to do so. Yes, he will be irrelevant then, but the damage he did will still exist, and all of that money in the BBB bill that we could have been using to avoid these damn fires will still not be on the way because he is a despicable prick.
I went ahead and went to the Sugar Pine community meeting and party last week, and it would appear that I didn't catch covid there. Sure, it was outdoors, but there were no masks to be seen and there were folks from out of the neighborhood who could have been infected. The band did workable covers of ZZ Top and had a huge video screen behind them, because it's 2022 and that's what bands do these days.
Josh Hawley was not wrong to run away from a riot that he could have been killed in. He was wrong to have helped that riot come about, and isn't that just the whole goddamn Republican party in a hilarious looking nutshell?
Thank you again for the podcast. Briana ans Zsuzs are both down in Oakland dealing with doctor appointments and transportation issues (we apparently now own a vehicle from this century, which is a first for us) so it's just me and the cat holding down the fort while the goddamn world burns.

P.S. I hope you guys got the email I sent you with the cat and dog pictures.
