Speaking as someone who's probably read most of the books they wrote together, I'd like to point out that Inferno was written by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, not Pournelle by himself. Also, I'm beginning to think of the Trump Administration in terms of the tagline to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Who will survive the Trump Administration, and what will be left of them?

One thing that's really ticking me off about Speaker Pelosi's not starting an impeachment inquiry right now is the condescension I see online (not you two) from posters whose message seems to be "Why are you blaming Nancy? Impeachment is a waste of time and resources since the Republicans won't vote to convict" and that anyone who thinks otherwise is somehow being childish. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that those people have not had their children abducted and/or tortured by the government as a means to curb immigration. I wonder where their patience would be if that were the case. As you said, Driftglass, the job of the sheriff is to enforce the law. The stuff about "Smart prosecutors do this" is a lot of hot air to me. I wouldn't put it past the people who looked at Clinton and Trump in 2016 and said "How am I supposed to choose between these two" to say in 2020 "If Trump were that bad, why didn't the Democrats impeach him?"

Can you remind us again why Bob Cesca is your friend, his being a Tom Nichols fan and all?

Wait, wait
Is Trump about to pivot into being president?

Will Trump enter the nuclear Twitter digits on Paul Ryan?

When it comes to hiring the Best and smartest people. Trump never said anything about corrpt, KNiving, country sell outs as being best or not.
So when the best and smartest leave to spend more time with their family values and fiscal conservatism.
It means 2nd best and smartest and all the losers? Remember if you win a position with Trump you are the best. Everyone after that are ":losers". Taking sloppy seconds.

Watching the best and smartest failing to keep Trump's promises. Failing. Is Trump's blame doll. Isn't that why the "Barbie" doll company made the "Ken" doll. So Barbie had someone to blame?
Like the Pence religious miracle of visiting concentration camps and telling us in front of cameras (that we can visually see for ourselves) that they were treated like the American white supremacists would expect.
How Pence failed at the false witness ad worship as many false Idols you need to fulfill his greed.

Nancy Pelosi may not want to open impeachment hearings officially. This does undermine the Muller report. There are other aspects.
* The McConnell zombie Senate which goes to any extreme in the moment (See kavanaugh)
* There is the Installed SCOTUS Federalist Society justices who read The from a different Constitution.
* Time and effort gets us what?
* A large percent of Americans do not vote and will not care but polled over impeaching all the same. The divide of other that vote is known.
* I say damn if you don't and commit to approval. So shut up is what they will get if they don't.
* I say open impeach hearings. If (and it appears it is there) write the impeaching articles. Vote on it. If articles pass. Send it to the Senate.
Let the Senators Graham hire outside people to question for them(as the kavanaugh confirm hearing) then they can bust in and sidplay their indignation at it is all a farce and they know what is best but will not show or tell us. Th:et the Senate GOP put on a show producedby McConnell for all to see through. Forcing the GOP zombie faithful to swallow the brains they bit into.

A full frontal in front of all America and the world. Get it over with. If we are not a democracy. Get this out of the GOP closet. Just like getting the White supremacist NAZIS have.

I know this, If Pelosi and the Dem controlled House does not get it's oversight powers and fast. Via courts to expedite their subpoena powers for instance. It is so much more than the idea of "losing politically".

I know it's nerve-wracking waiting around to see if Pelosi is actually timing impeachment proceedings to have an actual effect on the election, and I certainly don't want her running her mouth about her strategies within earshot of the goddamn Republicans, but did we not know these would be stressful times when he became president?
We're the lucky ones, the ones not in the cages, not facing deportation, and those unlucky ones are counting on us to come through.
I don't see him being acquitted by the senate just in time to claim "full and complete exoneration" right as the campaign heats up in the first part of next year as anything I could take to those in the cages and tell them "Sorry, this was the best I could do" as coming through.
I do hope the committees in the house get more aggressive about their subpoena responses, but if that takes a while, perhaps the timing will be better.
Bottom line: we don't hold the lever that ejects or even fully stops Fergus from the damage he's doing, and if there were something we could do to make him stop, that would be what we should do.
But as things stand, Mitch McConnell exists, and the only sure bet to get the babies out of the cages is getting the Republicans out of the white house and the senate, and I am serious about not wanting to fuck that up, because it's far from a sure thing, and they will be cheating on a completely different level this time after two years of total Republican control of the federal government.

Thank you for the podcast, and just so you know, I had to make this comment in Opera as Firefox wouldn't let me.

Another thought on this,

If the GOP had kept control of the House. What stench we would be drowning in?

Ensuring the impeachment hearings or notion of impeachment hearing going on through the election. Is nothing new.

I recall, Benghazi investigations, HRC Emails investigation, ending with an 11 hour hearing for the Dem Candidate *HRC) and televised on FOX and Cspan with other networks airing much of it.
Orchestrated and using tax payer money to campaign by House Majority.

Let the GOP have to spend time and money feeding their zombies a different diet. It is less time for them to attack and amass as a zombie herd to attack the Hill Top.
