Best of 2018?

I dunno.  None of them are going to win a Sidney Award -- certainly not the rare Sidney Doble -- but a lot of people read 'em and passed 'em around like dirty postcards, so I guess that's something...

  1. The Candidate Who Has Fallen Under the Weight of Her Stone
  2. Never Turn Your Back on a Never Trumper
  3. The Madness of Mercy
  4. This Week on "Tone Cop!": Bret Stephens
  5. Magic Ruralism (tm)
  6. Today In Both Sides Do It: Advice From The New York Times On The Proper Use Of "Fuck"

This was the year I launched a new publication which, if I could just keep the smirk off my face and play it straight, bids fair to make me rich as Croesus:

This was the year when Mr. Glenn Greenwald took his mad fighting skillz to his new home at Fox News --

-- while most of his Spleenwald Horde and his celebrity hangers-on (who had spent years making quite merry slagging the shit out of Landru critics like me for not being Of The Body) suddenly got reeeal quiet.

And this year Mr. David Brooks completely shook off his brief, post-2016 election flirtation with introspection and came roaring back with columns of such pure, Brooksian Pecksniffery that they will surely be studied by Historians of Tomorrow:

Happy 2019 everyone!

Behold, a Tip Jar!

Oh, dude, dude! David Brooks came so close to writing a column I like today. But he pulled his fat out of the fire in the last few inches of the column. It turns out, after all, in paragraph 13 that the left is just as bad as the right. He will never take responsibility for what he has wrought.

By the way, did I point out how amazingly the colors in Rothko paintings begin to shimmer and nebulize as you look at them? It's as if he were making apparent the foundations of our perceptions...the emotional values of colors and shapes that we normally miss as we get overwhelmed by the narratives that construct our indentities, which actually are constructed from those foundational elements. He's laying bare the mind. I'm a big-league fan. And maybe a bit insane. And too lazy right now to write well.

Nice post with fun stuff.

Anyone watching the networks find the alarm sirens going off over the Dems.

What is their agenda? Why won't they be more like republicans and compromise with the Art of the Deal Guy? Is the old white guy Joe Biden really the one for president in 20220? Sen. Warren cannot shake the Trump Pocahontas name calling by Trump. How can she survive a run against him?
Even, what if the Dems have a contested delegate nomination fight?

No one, absolutely no one in this media arena can spit out questions like,
* How did the Taxed Enough Already Party end up spending so much. Taking out a $2 trillion 2nd mortgage on our homes without our consent just to redistribute to the wealthy, to use to donate to republican elections?

Not even this,
* What are the newest latest GOP election fraud strategies they plan on using this coming election and how effective will it be to suppress votes more than prior elections?

My favorite,
Has the GOP hired new marketing firms? Have they found their new "re branding" of who they are going to be on the outside of the box stuffed with all the same old tired products, yet? How are they going to cause all the corporate networks to enable it this time???

As Brooks scurries around trying to find a way to explain or suggest that somehow canny ad Chuck are to blame for Putin puppeteering Trump who puppets the GOP and omitting the likes of Koch Grinch Brohams., Et Al.

On this note, Do you think Brooks is secretly learning to speak and write Russian?
