First They Came For The McDonnells... UPDATE

Noted crazy person, disgraced college president, Newt Gingrich BFF --
The conservative flamethrower’s recent article in Forbes magazine served as the inspiration for Newt Gingrich’s notorious comment about President Obama’s “Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior” being the essence of his character.Gingrich thinks D’Souza’s piece to be a “stunning insight,” the “most profound insight I have read in the last six years about Barack Obama.
-- and auteur in the genre of wingnut paranoia hate-porn, Dinesh D'Souza, may still have a little further to fall before going splat back at the base of the Great Wingnut Welfare Food Pyramid.

But if so, it is a distance that can now be measured in inches.

From Reuters:
Dinesh D'Souza indicted for violating U.S. election law

BY JONATHAN STEMPEL

NEW YORK Thu Jan 23, 2014 6:03pm EST

Jan 23 (Reuters) - Dinesh D'Souza, a conservative commentator and best-selling author, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for arranging excessive campaign contributions to a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

According to an indictment made public on Thursday in federal court in Manhattan, D'Souza around August 2012 reimbursed people who he had directed to contribute $20,000 to the candidate's campaign. The candidate was not named in the indictment.

Attempts to reach D'Souza and a lawyer representing him were unsuccessful.

D'Souza was charged in the indictment with one count of making illegal contributions in the names of others, and one count of causing false statements to be made.
...
Obviously Mr. D'Souza made the classic mistake of not being partisan enough. Which, we all know, is the only reason the Liberal jackals of the American judicial system ever go after Conservative heroes like Mr. D'Souza.

Because Freedom!

Also I'm sure his future contribution to America letters --"Notes from the Liberal Gulag: My Life as a Conservative Prisoner of Conscience" -- recounting his harrowing four months trying to survive low sheet thread-counts and a very limited wine list at the Taft minimum-security Correctional Institution will go on to be Regnery Press' biggest seller of 2017.

UPDATE:  And just like fucking clockwork...

From Fox News:
...
D’Souza’s co-producer in “2016” Gerald Molen told FoxNews.com he believes the charges are politically motivated and D’Souza is being singled out by federal authorities for a “selective prosecution.”

The 2012 film examined President Obama’s past and early influences that may have shaped his political ideology and was a surprise hit, making over $33 million at the box office.

The duo is teaming up again for a new film “America,” which Molen said will be released on schedule in July 2014 regardless of what happens in the case.

“Neither the filmmakers nor the American public can allow this prosecution to deter us from the film's release, and I am calling upon the American people to show their elected officials that this kind of selective prosecution will not stand, by joining us at the box office,” Molen said. “I look forward to my good friend Dinesh being vindicated for what appears to be nothing more than a misunderstanding."

It makes you wonder what he actually did to deserve this as I'm sure many Repuses have done the same.

My guess is that he was caught with his hand in some sugar bowl and this was the lesser offense for which he was allowed to trade off.

Or maybe he's the only politician who's actually done this (lately).

Again, hard to believe.

Someone should be researching this.

I'm not shocked at the amount of corruption going on, that's just people being people. I am highly amused at the rank incompetence of it all.

Heck the local bets here (DC metro area) were that the mayor of DC would be the first one to bite it, not the VA Gov. The guy was under FBI investigation during his campaign. He's been MUCH more of a local disaster as well when it comes to criminal activity and crazy behavior. The man went out and got his ass arrested multiple times doing really stupid shit, deliberately, to distract from his federal investigations (and no that's not a joke).

Yet Sodomy Bob is in a world of shit. Gray on the other hand was already in hot water for lying to the FBI and shredding documents... during his campaign. One of Gray's top campaign officials has been hemmed up for a while for over 600k of illegal contributes from DC city contractors to run a shadow campaign as well (multiple convictions happened, Gray is still mayor though!). Oh, and one of Gray's good friends (that he hired for much more than is normally paid, and illegally higher) managed to rack up gun charges and had a restraining order placed on him by a 13 year old girl (IIRC that's related to the breaking and entering issue he was in hot water for before)... in addition to the normal DC corruption fiascos. There was also the stealing from the lottery issue, though since they robbed Georgia who the fuck cares, outside of poor bastards on layovers there's nothing there.

The local politics here (thanks Sodomy Bob, and thanks Gray) make congress look good.

So Republicans were right: Election fraud is rampant!

Ohhh...

And left out that we are at the center of the Michele Rhee fiasco (started here), and Mayor Barry's (yes I know he's not the mayor now, but he is always the MAYOR here) crusade against dirty Asians turning good black businesses into whore houses and taking healthcare jobs from good clean black folk (again, not a joke, that's normal for Barry). The best part of that mess was after going after Koreans and Filipinos he brought up "the Polacks".

And if you think what the Tea Party has said is bad, you should see the comments about Koreans that caused last years dust-up.

Probably too much local junk, but just to show that congress isn't the only group of ass goblins around here.

This nation deserves a better class of criminals.

@Unsalted

Still wrong, they said voter fraud was rampant.

Oy, who cares? Good on you, DG, for keeping up with the clock.

D'Souza is and always has been a dick of the highest order. Notice that he agrees without qualification that fucking Obamacare is a "blowjob to the insurance industry." "Alright," concurs the fuck.

He made "a film." Please, will you fucking reasonable lefties stop crediting film! I, an unreasonable lefty, can't stomach the medium. We should call out film-making for what it is: changing the subject, avoiding the issue. Fucking Michael Moore is as culpable as this third world dick when it comes to using cheesy media to make some vague point.

A "surprise hit" I never heard of.

Whoever wrote that is extremely gullible.

Why didn't he just form a PAC?

D’Souza faces up to 7 years for doing something that was both reckless and unnecessary.

There are differences in how the money would have been spent but that is a trivial matter, no? If John Stewart can run Colbert's SuperPAC...

This is the second high profile case that US Attorney Preet Bharara has brought forward in as many months. Both Devyani Khobragade and D'Souza are claiming that they are victims of selective prosecution and while being the target of a federal prosecution certainly isn't something to aim for, in D'Souza's case it guarantees his spot on the wingnut welfare roles.

It really couldn't happen to a bigger scumbag. Some of us are enjoying rewatching Dinesh getting thoroughly Hitch-slapped this morning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsBEShZ8Llo&feature=youtu.be

I wholeheartedly endorse going after ones political enemies. Please President Obama, destory the gop. Or better yet, just stand aside and allow them to destroy themselves. Remember: no helping hand extended to those who are drowning.

At $10 a ticket, 33 million is 3.3 million viewers, or about 1% of the US population. That's not bad for making money, but pretty worthless in terms of making a political point.
