Before Tom Waits Took The Day Off

to sweat out a sultry night of whiskey and sin, he reminded me there is only one song for a hot, languid first of August.

That's not my type of music typically, but THAT...

Well, that is why Ella and Satchmo are music royalty. Deservedly.

That's straight from Porgy And Bess isn't it?

Incredible work, where ever it came from. It's the best of the best . . . geez it's grand! What a duet. Sigh . . . . . Man those two did us SO good with their music in their time with us. . . .

I've not been to NYC as an adult, of Chicago for that matter. But the opening makes you feel like it's August, and you are just stepping out or in to The Cotton Club . . . it's hot, humid, 90/90 each, and shirts and skirts stick to all the places they touch.

Time to get COOL, cat.

90F, daily here, often 100F. But it's dry. Blergh.
Who needs another cold one . . .

Huzzah.

The moment I heard the trumpet I knew that it was Louis. The great Miles Davis once said that you couldn't play anything on your horn - not even modern - that Louis hadn't already played.

The series of recordings that Ella and Louis did in the 1950s are just sublime!

He took the day off again!?!?!

Perfect. My favorite version..... okay, I like Doc's too but in a different way.

Lemonade with beer ..... called a "Raddler" I think. mmmm.. 'sgood. :-)

Almost to 90 the past few days, no wind, and not a damn sign of forest prescribed burning filling the air with smoke all summer. Finally, a nice one. Finally.

Sweet relief! :-)

I think the thing that makes Armstrong so unique and enjoyable is the sheer joy that comes through his work. Did us well, indeed.

Great catch dg, thanks, as always.

My favorite recording of "Summertime" is actually an instrumental version recorded by the late jazz flautist Herbie Mann on the album "Live at the Village Gate."
