Before Rod Serling Cast Him in The Twilight Zone Episode "Nothing in the Dark"

(written by George Clayton Johnson) and before Rod Serling showed his audience exactly how fascism takes root in The Twilight Zone episode "He's Alive." (written by Rod Serling) ...

... did you know that Serling had already cast Robert Redford in a previous project?

It was an episode of Playhouse 90, in which -- surprise! -- Serling showed his audience exactly how fascism works.  In this scene, the older, more coolly malevolent Nazi played by the excellent George Macready explains to Redford's character the utility of hatred.

65 years ago, the works of writers like Serling and Paddy Chayefsky were considered to be the gold standard of broadcast television drama.

65 years later, the fascist who now runs the FCC would likely sanction the stations that aired them at the behest of the fascist in the White House.
