Darren Bailey is an far-right crackpot Republican politician who is currently serving in the Illinois Senate for the 55th district. He is also the Illinois Republican party's nominee for governor.
Darren Bailey Faces Intense Backlash After Footage Surfaces of Him Comparing Abortion to the Holocaust
Bailey, who won the party’s nomination to take on incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker in November, made the comments while he was running for the Illinois House in 2017.
“The attempted extermination of the Jews of World War II doesn’t even compare on a shadow of the life that has been lost with abortion,” he said during the interview.
The footage was re-published by Forward, a national Jewish newspaper, earlier this week.
Bailey's race isn't getting much national attention because almost anyone with eyes with which to see and fingers with which to count is pretty sure that Bailey is going to get stomped by J.B. Pritzker this fall. The only wagering is on the spread.
But my larger point is this: the real experts on what the Republican party actually looks like under the mask have always been those of us who live out here among them in flyover country. We don't have to run polls and focus groups to figure out what these mopes are really thinking.
All we've ever had to do is keep our ears open when we're at the grocery store or at the bar or in the church parlor or at a city council meeting.
Because kids, they are not shy about it.
