Stop Trying To Make Mitt Romney Happen

It's not going to happen.

A few years ago  I wrote ("Hokum's Heroes") about how Never Trumpers were so horny to find Mighty Heroes in the midden pile of the GOP that they were lining up behind Willard "Mitt" Romney (R-Money) as the "leader of the Republican Resistance to Trump" (Bill Kristol) who was "setting up rendezvous with destiny" (David Frum) in order to smash through the "Trump-supporting media apparatus on the right" (Rick Wilson) and create "a breaking point from this mind-trap that a lot of Republicans are in" (Michael Steele).

No kidding.  They all got out there and pitched the hell out of the ludicrous idea that Mittens Romney was going to save the GOP from the monster that all these clowns had spent decades working to create.

But instead, Mittens folded, neat and tidy, like an extra pair of magic underwear.  Kept his head down.  Helped pack the Supreme Court with fascist goons.  Voted against voting rights.  All the usual stuff.

However, lurking in the hearts of many Never Trumper there remains the delusion that if the right guy could just...

So once again we find the mainstream media and a senior Never Trumper trying to elevate Mitten's profile.

Except it not in any way a "Powerful piece".

From The Atlantic:

What accounts for the blithe dismissal of potentially cataclysmic threats? The left thinks the right is at fault for ignoring climate change and the attacks on our political system. The right thinks the left is the problem for ignoring illegal immigration and the national debt. But wishful thinking happens across the political spectrum. More and more, we are a nation in denial.

It is just stale, gray slop composed of pureed leftovers from 1,000 David Brooks columns and 1,000 "Meet the Press" episodes and 1,000 Peggy Noonan wine-soaked Wall Street Journal crying jags.

It is just the one millionth piece of "Both Sides Do It" Beltway media codswallop being passed off as a serious think-piece.

And it is an embarrassment that it comes with Stuart Stevens' endorsement.

It's also an embarrassment that it is printed in The Atlantic. Thank you Elitist MSM for a July 4th baloney sandwich instead of a grilled hot dog.

This quest to find anyone in Republican ranks who will stand for basic decency without the huge glob of ritual both siderism is really a national humiliation.

Stuart still hasn't gotten to the point where he reevaluates all the secondary stuff he took in. He realized "it was all a lie", hut he hasn't reflected on the liars who made that lie happen, and realized that they're not the swell people as he remembers thinking they were.

It could be worse. They could be telling us that said baloney sandwich (on white bread, natch) was actually a banh mi, and serving it as such in the Oberlin cafeteria. (LG&M will never let that one lie, or at least not until the MSM starts treating it with the continual derision it deserves, which means functionally never.)

I'll just leave this here: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/11/mitt-romney-donald-trump-dinner-secretary-of-state
The look on Romney's face is how *I* will always remember him, now and forever. It tells you everything you need to know about the man. He represents nothing, except his own mediocre, milquetoast ambition. It's the look of cowardice and acquiescence, in action, in real time. His one measly impeachment vote does nothing to dispel the total impression of a man who meekly stands for and truly believes in...nothing. Excepting his anointed place in the public discourse because he was born rich and he's (now, since '94) a Republican. The end.

I know I can safely avoid reading the article because Mitt R-Money must be talking about guns and the need for strict and expansive gun control. Since Mittens is a billionaire he doesn't need the NRA's blood money to win elections and can jet out a course of true statesmanship.

Can’t read the article since it’s behind a paywall, but this sort of bothsiderism is always hilarious to me:
“Climate change & Attacks on our Democracy” /= “Illegal immigration & Budget deficits” when it comes to the “blithe dismissal of potentially cataclysmic threats”.

>>> The right thinks the left is the problem for ignoring illegal immigration and the national debt.

Horseshit. The right wants old rich people, overwhelmingly white and mostly men, to get richer and more powerful. Every single thing they say about immigration and debt spending is scrim-thin lies, shadow puppetry to disguise the basic goal of gaining and holding wealth and power.

I don't even think all the GOP upper-crust types (like Romney) really buy into the racism. They just don't care, and they're more than willing to stoke the racist, nativist tropes that get their base to turn out each voting day.

But then again, what do you call two Klansmen and a Republican who isn't in the Klan but is more than willing to use them as a workforce and voter base? You call that three Klansmen.

So dropped the mic, and the countryside did shake with that feedback.

Last I was aware, Mittened is an American too. Therefore he too is in denial and not to mention is in the republican party that has now become the Fascist theocracy party.

Mitt would treat us like he treats his dog.
