It seems to me that Democrats want things to actually get better, and need to know that they really are better, whereas the Republicans don't give a rat's ass whether they are real or not.
So no, we wouldn't watch a show full of friendly lies tailored to our political leanings. Which is why we don't have a major network presence, as the major networks aren't up to the task of providing anything more genuine than that.
And the networks' approach to our share of the market isn't to raise the quality of the information presented, it's to try and figure out how to cash in on the leanings of the programming they see us favoring.
Which may or may not go a long way towards explaining why I'm sixty one years old and have never owned a television. Well, that and the Live Aid weekend...
On the weekend of Live Aid in 1985, I rented a television so as to watch the Who perform (who knew that Queen would steal the show?) They brought the set to my house on Friday afternoon, and I took it inside, plugged it in, and turned it on just in time for the evening news. At first I thought that something was wrong with the picture, as it was blurry and pink, and that's when the announcer began describing Ronald Reagan's colonoscopy. I sort of took it as a sign and never gave any serious thought to bringing a television into my home again.
Good lord they have audio. And those of us who value reality will mark it down on the long list of Republican lies and deceptions, and those who don't give a rat's ass about reality will fail to notice it entirely.
We need to beat them politically with our superior numbers while we still have them, as Barack Obama's belated conclusion about disinformation is correct. It is very possible for them to crash the whole society even from the minority.
Thank you again for the podcast. Thursday evening on her way back from the East Bay, Briana was involved in a car accident, and is in a hospital in Fresno with fractures to her ribs and arm. That hospital is, as Zsuzs called it, "a mess" and I have been unable to speak with Briana since Friday morning when she was really out of it and I was standing outside in the freezing rain to get enough signal for the call. Wish us luck, we're gonna need it.
