Watching WGN tv and wondering is there any Illinois celebration of Lincoln's birthday Feb 12?
Why, when I was in school . . . .
I very much agree with the idea of reclaiming the mantle of the party of fun. Not just as a PR strategy, but in the very real sense that if the goddamn Republicans are actually making our lives dour and miserable, they are winning, by their own criteria.
It sort of brings to mind Jenny Lawson's amazing book "Furiously Happy", in that it seems like we usually think of our happiness levels as reactions to our circumstances, when we really do (usually) have a larger degree of control over our feelings than that.
As someone who used to struggle with depression, I am mindful of the ways in which we don't have control over such feelings, but as Jenny said in her book, that very fact is a motivator to make you take the ways we do have control over into "furiously happy" when the chance arises.
Fuck Glenn Greenwald in his nose with a frozen earthworm.
I read a post on Crooks and Liars today that said that even though we don't have a liberal version of Fox, we shouldn't let it stop us from using what, admittedly smaller, platforms we have to spread our message. I agree with that way of thinking, and thank you for embodying it, day after day, week after week.
And fuck yeah, Molly Ivins was right. Don't forget to have fun when you're out there freedom fighting, because we don't always win, and it could end up being all of the fun you get...
Thank you again for the podcast, and please spare a thought for Zsuzs' cat Squeaker who is still not doing well.

The comment about Bruce Willis got me curious. It's just as you said. He's got 12 projects that have not been released yet. It stands to reason that he's walking on for a few hours to pick up a couple of million. His picture on IMDB even shows the earpiece, as if it's part of his tough-guy equipment, not how he's fed his lines. The most recent release is a cookie-cutter hostage story, which, if I recall correctly, was also the theme of Die Hard. The fans at IMDB rate it a 3.5 out of 10, which is abysmally low.
Nice work if you can get it.
I'd have killed to see the book of Boba Fett end that way. Or just to have the Mandolorian take off his helmet to reveal Bob Newhart.
