Mona Charen's Brain is Broken

Let's jump right in, shall we?

Ms. Charen and Mr. Charlie Sykes of The Bulwark spent the first few minutes of this podcast charbroiling their former party as pitilessly as any foul-mouthed blogger of the Left.

Charen: You know parties always have had some people on the fringes [like Madison Cawthorn and Marsha Blackburn who they had just spent several minutes shredding as toxic, know-nothing lunatics] who sounded like this... and they would be an embarrassment to the mainstream types you know who would sort of roll their eyes and say, "Well, I wouldn't put it that way", you know?  But now those people are very much in the center.  They're in the saddle and it's anybody who's reasonable... who's thoughtful... who recognizes any degree of nuance who is not welcome.  I mean... those people are traitors, RINOS, cucks etc.  And it is just... it's just amazing to watch this degradation of intelligence and reason.

 

So three cheers for them, right?

But then Ms. Charen's brain fell straight out of her head, because it is completely impossible for her to admit to herself even for a second that the Left had actually been right about the Right all along. And so, in literally her very next sentence...

Charen:  By the way you know the... the fact is... there are polls showing that on Both Sides of the political spectrum people believe ridiculous things about the other party.  I mean widely so, right.   So they believe, y'know a lot of Democrats believe that most Republicans are fascists and a huge number of Republicans believe that Democrats are all socialists, uh and, uh and anti-god and the rest of it. So, um, it is... uh y'know, it's... we're... we're... we're in perilous waters here.

 

Think about that for just a minute.  Think about how fucked-in-the-head a person would have to be so that, in one breathe they accurately describe the Republican party as the lumpen authoritarian shitpile that it, and in the next breathe they blithely slag Democrats as "ridiculous" for describing exactly the same party in exactly the same way.  

I'm not a fancy forensic speech auditor, but I got the strong impression from the way Ms. Charen skidded and stuttered as she rounded out her performative Both Siderism that she suddenly noticed mid-sentence how asinine she sounded.   

After that came all the usual badgering of the Left for being irrational and reckless and wanting to spend ALL THAT MONEY on god-knows what, which is a whole different post.  Suffice it to say when Ms. Charen said that --

Charen:  ...the threat from the anti-democratic and authoritarian Right requires the Center/Left and the Left to come together for the sake of the country. 

-- what she meant is - what all of these Never Trump goofs always mean is -- that it is the Left's duty to unconditionally capitulate to Joe Manchin.  

Charen:  And the... the Left does not seem to have that as their primary goal. They are so, y'know, sort of blinkered and... and in their approach where they only can see what their goals are.

Never Trumpers have been so perverted by their decades at the GOP's High Table where "bipartisanship" was always code for Democrats yielding to every batshit Republican demand (and then still getting screwed) that they are incapable of imagining  a world in which, instead of lambasting the overwhelming majority of the Democratic party for not capitulating to the whims of Joe Manchin,  they would instead castigate Joe Manchin for not yielding to a proposal which the leaders of Manchin's own party and the overwhelming majority of elected officials in Manchin's own party and the overwhelming majority of Democratic voters and the overwhelming majority of the public all support -- a proposal on which the Left has already agreed to considerable compromises.  

No, in the sclerotic imaginations of these former Republicans, whatever the issue and whatever the circumstances, it will always be the privilege of the Right to demand, and it will always be the duty of the Left to concede.   

To them, that will always be the natural order of things.

Which is why you can never trust a Never Trumper.
