Trump Country: South/Central Illinois

I took this photo on a Sunday morning in a McDonald's parking lot in Effingham, Illinois, population 12,563.

And this was taken on the same Sunday morning while driving through Beecher City, Illinois, population 453.  The "McKinley" named on the sign apparently refers to a dog at the Donaldson’s Standard service station.

And while I don't know what they manufacture in this Beecher City establishment besides entropy and despair --

-- it's a fair proxy for the state of soul of many of the South/Central Illinois towns we passed through.  Rusted out.  Neglected.  A large number of long-ago abandoned buildings and several buildings which had obviously been in the middle of some kind of Hail Mary, paint-and-pray renovation before they too had been abandoned.  "Abortion is Murder" billboards. "Guns Save Lives" signs like old Burma Shave signs that tell a little four-panel story about the importance of owning an  in-home arsenal planted out where the cornfields and soybean fields edge up to the road.

We also passed (but did not photograph) a coal mine museum, but it was the Moweaqua, Illinois Coal Mine Museum and not the Christian County, Illinois Coal Mine Museum nor was it the Illinois Coal Mine Museum at Gillespie.

Because while we did spy the top edge of a Pride flag peeking over the tall fence of someone's yard, this is Republican Trump Country.  This is where the battle for hearts and minds was lost decades ago as Hate Radio and Fox News and Republican ad-makers quietly invaded thousands of towns like this and set up shop, telling the rubes the same lies, over and over again, year after year, until it became part of their hardwiring.  That the reasons their lives were getting worse and their children left for the Big City and never came back were, in no particular order, the Gay Agenda, Welfare Queens, Feminazis, Abortionists and, of course, those dirty, Commie Libtards and their Soros-controlled media.

And however obvious it may be to any objective observer that their lives have been and would continue be materially improved by the policies of the Democratic Party, they would no more consider abandoning the comforting, rage-fueled, white supremacist ideology of the Right than they would consider abandoning the ashes of their fathers and the temples of his Gods.

it is not possible for me to understand the false pride in the Bibles these right wingers say is in their Bibles . How their God said unto them to not engage in "False Pride".

They are proud to be white? Pride to be any skin color.

having a culture to lift up, to offer to and add to mankind's differences to enhance and enjoy.

Pride in the color of your skin you were born with? Okay, if you have been shamed and disgraced of your skin color. Can cause people to overcome such denigrating biases.

Most of all, it is difficult today to grasp the mental illness that owns cerein people to the degree they will use political extremism with others in the right realm to justify together their disregard for sanity.

Why do they run to the hospital when they come down with the COVID? After refusing the medical offer of the vaccine.

If you were bit by a rattle snake . It's venom is going to kill you. There is a Rattle Snake venom antidote. Do they refuse to tale the antidote when they get to the hospital and it is offered to them>

I find myself Senator Susan Collins concerned. It has reached that level.

These communities were thriving fifty years ago. What happened? It wasn't socialism. Family farms got bigger and bought the farmland, chasing the small farmers out of business and out of town. These small towns now consist of a Dollar General, a Casey's and not much of anything else. Most of the people who are left are retired and on Social Security and Medicare. And they all have a satellite dish so they can get Fox News.

My friends for 20 years were the Jaramillo y Camarena family. Yes they are Mexican. They had a dog that they called Gringo. It was funny because he was a white Labrador type of dog. Trust me it was funny. He was a good dog. He died.
Later on in the early 2000s people started to freak about Mexicans again. Teodoro decided to adopt a little Chihuahua that they named Chiripa. She was a rescue dog and had lots of problems. One day i asked where is Chiripa?

They said they took her back to the shelter.
I don't blame them. That poor little dog.
At the time my friends were also struggling.

Kind of reminds me of something I heard back in the 1970's.. If your biggest accomplishment in life is being born white, congratulations.

The stereo typing of color.

The Democratic party panders to people of color at the expense of White People. So say the republicans.
Who have very fine people on that White supremacist side and still cannot justify Colin Powell, Alan West or Michael Steele.

I notice the Black senator from South Carolina (republican) does not show up at CPAC? Tough to talk about people of color taking their jobs away from white folk in that setting.

And about that wore women in government things.

Did you ever consider republicans with Marsha Blackburn, Margie Greene and the Bobet even the Phyliss Schlafly, Ann Coulter, Kellyanne Conway creatures. Did you? I don't recall being warned about them.

I mean they are females of the species.

In the general calls for more females in government, there needs a disclaimer and a safety warning on that.

"Effingham." I thought that was a joke ["F-ing-ham"]. But, no, it really exists, I discovered, and I feel bad that I even had that thought.

But, it is really sad to drive from one blasted-out town to another in the rural U.S. these days. I have done that often.

It's so sad for me. My parents both were raised on the plains. When I was a kid in the sixties, the towns they came from were still vibrant communities. Now they're just horribly depressing: a few fast food franchises on the highways that lead out of town away from a blasted downtown pocked with blighted businesses. Oh, and then above the horizon there looms a Walmart in the fields, like some temple to Moloch, forbidden to those without cars.

It's just so monumentally sad to know that 40%+ of this country would rather die with an epitaph that says "He died owning the libs" than use a BB's worth of critical thought. F'ing death culters.
