Why Is Matt Lewis?

Third-rate-and-falling Conservative thinker and author of "The Quotable Rogue: The Ideals of Sarah Palin in Her Own Words", Matt Lewis, was at the MSNBC Big Boy table this week patiently explaining to Brian Williams why the worst thing in the world that Liberals could do right now is to say mean things about the reprogrammable Republican meatbags who are still hell-bent on wrecking our democracy.

About which more in a moment.

But first, what is the guy about whom White Power Hour host Tucker Carlson wrote, "If you learned everything you knew about American politics from Matt Lewis, you'd be in pretty good shape. I should know, since I practically do." doing at the Big Boy table at all?

Honestly, I blame The Lincoln Project.

You see, ever since they blew themselves into tiny, tiny bits in a fireball of serial sexual predation, coverups, lies and grifting, MSNBC (the Liberal teevee network that basically invented the Lincoln Lads) has been quietly sidling away from them.  And since MSNBC has what can only be described as a corporate quota system which mandates that MSNBC programs be larded up with with as many Never Trump Republicans per-hour as possible, the sudden downgrading of Lincoln Lad regulars from "ratings gold!" to "toxic mess!" has left big holes in their lineups.

And to fill them, they're having to go waaaay down bench and call up some, well, Matt Lewises to meet quota.

So expect to see the Noah Rothmans and John Podhoretzes pulled off of the pundit "B" Ark put back into active duty. And who knows, maybe even be a Matthew Continetti sighting?   Because the network clearly doesn't want much want to litigate "Whither Trump?" anymore.  They want to hear from brain wizards like Matt Lewis (told you we'd get back to it) that the worst thing we Liberals could do vis-a-vis the Republican base would be to [checks notes] hold them accountable in any way.

BRIAN WILLIAMS:  So, Matt, with the big lie still out there and still out there big time, and if you don't want to resort to what so many find -- this offensive and patronizing and classist line -- about "de-programming Trump followers," how would you counsel Biden and national Democrats to approach that constituency that David just made plain is out there and fully functional?

MATT LEWIS:  Well, right now I agree with what David said. And I mostly agree with what Matthew Dowd said, except I don't think the onus is on Joe Biden, right. I think that what we have is really almost a generational challenge now. There is a cultural problem in America. There is a spiritual problem probably in America that needs to be addressed. You know, by pastors. This is going to be a grassroots effort to win hearts and minds as sort of an insurgency that may sound offensive as well to some people to say, but that's kind of what it is. It's about winning hearts and minds. I think the thing Joe Biden can do is be Joe Biden. Is be a healer, be a uniter and get things done, accomplish his agenda. There are other people out there, including the media, that I think have a responsibility, including people in the community, just really all of us have to step up. But I think when it comes to Democrats and Joe Biden, the worst thing that they could do is to come across like they're heavy-handed, like they're looking down on conservatives and on people on the Right. That's not going to help anything, but only, I think, make things worse. Now, look, should there be a commission? I think there should. This needs to be investigated. If law enforcement decides to pursue Donald Trump, whether it's on the insurrection or on other -- that's fine. I don't think Joe Biden should be focused on that. I think it would be actually a big mistake if he is.

Yeah, see, here's the thing Matt.  We tried it that way.  Walking on eggshells around the meatbags, constantly looking for peaceful, cooperative ways forward, extending an open hand again and again and again.  It was called "The Obama Administration".  Maybe you just slept through it?  Maybe you were was just knee-walking drunk for eight years, so this may all come as a bit of a spoiler to you, but, um, it didn't work.

At all.

In fact, for his troubles, what president Obama got from the Right was eight years of sabotage, sedition, unhinged racism, Birtherism and, finally, Trump.

And what we learned from those eight years and the four years of Trump that followed was that the Republican base are, in fact, uneducable, unsalvageable, reprogammable racist meatbags.  And the only way to deal with them is to metaphorically kick their teeth kicked down their throats over and over again until their party and their movement are dead.

But MSNBC has a quota to fill and needs Conservatives on tap willing to show up and pretend that speaking the blunt truth about these people --

-- would only make things worse.

A job so menial and ignominious that even a Matt Lewis could do it.

He seems to be wandering into the (I think it's) Brooksian space where he can't actually object to anything the Democrats are actually doing. It just makes him feel icky to say that, and of course saying the Left was right is just LOL because reasons.

Such sad news. Trump Atlantic tower of Power imploded. Rudy fired. Lincoln Project'ed dead.
Rushbo dead. GOP congressmen being censured , to censor their speech in their attempt to commit cancel culture on their own by state GOP parties. Breaking Reagan's 11th commandment to punish one of their own by breaking Reagan's 11th Commandment.

Now I know speaking ill of the dead is not Kosher. But God did not call Rush Limbaugh back to heaving.
Satan fulfilled his side of the contract with Rush and he called it in to put his soul on fire for a BBQ.
You do not break t God's 8th commandment by lying about a man who produced a lot of harm in his like to the bitter end that harmed God's children.
I would be bearing false witness if I used the old eulogy line of Rush call to heaving by god. That is not where he went.

I realize it is said

Texas might have froze over but hell is heating up.

I have favored a similar program for sometime, to the dismay of my more "centrist" friends. Continue with the kicking-teeth, ribs, wherever it hurts, until the Trumptards pee their pants at the very sound of the word Democrat. Then we can negotiate.

News reports say the Lincoln Project's finances are being looked into. Only about 1/3 of the money they collected got spent on ad buys. Steve Schmidt bought himself a house in Utah. Maybe it'll get bad enough that Joy Reid won't have to book him anymore.

Rash Lamebrain was sterile. Thank God, no progeny.

In trump's brood, each 'child' came from a different sperm bank. So no incest.

Have you ever considered referring to yourself as a Never Trumper Former Conservative…?
The media would beat a path to your door to get your "insights", and you could claim you saw the current state of the Republican Party before the other pundits did.

MSNBC TALKING HEAD:"So you called it correctly on the GOP before 2018, before even 2016, like the majority of other Never Trumpers did. When did you realise the Republican Party was being taken over by Right Wing extremist?"
DRIFTGLASS: "Well, if you look at my earlier musings, which many of my fellow Never Trumpers have used as inspiration for their own writings, you'll see from about the nineteen nineties, perhaps the eighties."

I was going to comment in snarky ways of course but my tangent required I know his age but by golly 5 minutes on Google didn't reveal that. Everyone agrees he was raised in Myersville MD but when that was is a mystery. I don't recall seeing another a Wiki bio that neglects to mention a birth date. I guess he might be like Jack Benny, you oldsters will recall him. Jack was eternally 39. Seems about right. In pundit terms the eternal Sophomore.

I don't have a problem speaking ill of a POS like Limbaugh. Fuck Limbaugh. I am glad he is dead.

Off topic but pertinent to current events.

Republican attempts at libertarian privatization of everything:

“If you’re going to say you can handle it by yourself, step up and do it,” said Hirs, the UH energy fellow, of the state’s pursuit of an independent grid with a deregulated market. “That’s the incredible failure.”

The Give Me Tarian does not involve himself with providing anything. While expecting everyone else to provide to him, anything at anytime.

There is no place on the planet, never has been such a libertarian place.
It can only exist in your imagination. There is NO FREE MARKETS. They are all negotiated. Republicans just initiated a free market war with China because they didn't like the rules of it and claimed other people are cheating. How can one cheat in a free market?
The best I can present is Somalia as the free market bastion. They are so free in Somalia, you can move there and live out your life's childhood dream of being a Pirate.
