The Roaring 2020's Sure Were Good Times for The Lincoln Project

Back when their very expensive political genius was worth it because they were definitely...

...going to save us from the craven shenanegins of Republicans like Susan Collins.

There were flattering profiles on 60 Minutes, awards from Ad Age --

Ad Age recognizes The Lincoln Project in 2020 ‘Marketer of the Year’ honors

-- millions of dollars pouring in from adoring Liberals, as well as prestigious job offers from overseas:

Lincoln Project founders join campaign against Netanyahu in Israel

...[Prime Minister Netanyahu and his main rival, Gideon] Saar recruited Republican consultants Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, Stuart Stevens and Reed Galen, whose Lincoln Project aimed to push Republican voters away from Donald Trump.

And then one day Math came riding into town with Accountability in the sidecar.

Somebody bothered to notice how many credible accounts of sexual predation had been leveled at one of the Lincoln Project's co-founders.

Someone took the trouble to count the number of days between the time these accounts of sexual predation were actually made known to the principles at the Lincoln Project...and the time they were forced by adverse publicity to do something about them.  Which led to unflattering updates from 60 Minutes:

Someone began to wonder about the large discrepancies between the vast sums of money flowing into the black box of the Lincoln Project, and the cost of the YouTube ads that they were cranking out.

And, finally, someone thought to actually tally the votes in the 2020 election to find out who won, who lost, and by what margins.  Thought to noticed that, in race after race, Republicans that the Lincoln Project bragged were such soft targets that they would beat them handily hadn't just won, but had won by bigger margins than they had won in their last election.  Thought to noticed that Susan Collins was, in  fact, still a Senator from Maine.

Still, we'll always have our fond memories... as long as we remind ourselves not to remember too far back:

To be scrupulously fair to the Lincoln Project, I'm waiting at least a year for journalistic and hopefully congressional investigations to shake out before I believe the numbers of how many people voted for Republicans last year.

Interesting SCOTUS nomination hearing moment where (Clinton Dick pics) Kavy responds to Sen. Klobuchar's question .
Kavy "I like beer" ,,, "How much do you drink?
Hearing to confirm Bill Barr, " has anyone asked, inferred, suggested, hinted you use the AG position as a tax payer personal attack group for Trump? Confirming Alex Acosta after reading all the reports how he undercut the Victims of Jeffery Epstein.

Does the true republican stand with Alex Acosta and does the True Conservative vote to confirm kavy?

There is no known produced container (as a can) which would physically hold that many massive amounts of worms an sealed in..
To await a can opener big enough to open that can of worms.

DG; there is an interesting take on the latest rendition of the never-trumpers in today's paper here in Fort Worth Texas (Star-Telegram). [IT'S TOO LONG FOR TOTAL SO I PUT IN WHAT IT WOULD TAKE]

Work inside or outside the GOP? ‘Never Trump’ Republicans split over next steps

What’s next for Never Trump Republicans after impeachment?

BY ADAM WOLLNER

WASHINGTON The loose coalition of “Never Trump” Republicans who worked to defeat former President Donald Trump are now turning to a new and far more challenging goal: purging his brand of politics from the GOP.

But there’s little agreement on the best way to do that — or whether it’s even possible.

Current and former Republican strategists and officials who oppose Trump and now find themselves without a natural political home said they have largely fallen into three camps since the 2020 election: reform the GOP from within, start a third party or align with moderate Democrats.

Regardless of where they fall, the relatively small band of anti-Trump Republicans acknowledge that eradicating the influence of the man who’s easily still the most popular figure in the GOP is much more daunting than simply beating him in an election.

But in the aftermath of the Capitol riot and the former president’s subsequent acquittal of an impeachment charge in the Senate, they argue that challenging the Trump coalition has taken on a renewed sense of urgency, even if they tackle that mission in different ways.

“The ‘Never Trump’ coalition is not bound by any particular policy principles,” said Lucy Caldwell, who managed former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh’s presidential campaign. “We don’t all have to make our bed together anymore.”

The most active anti-Trump GOP group since the election has been the Republican Accountability Project, which spawned from Republican Voters Against Trump. RAP’s executive director, Sarah Longwell, said they plan to raise and spend $50 million over the next two years as they pursue multiple avenues to defeat Trumpism.

The group has already paid for a series of billboards and ads to put pressure on GOP lawmakers who echoed Trump’s unfounded claims of voter fraud and opposed certification of the election. RAP is also providing support for Republican members of Congress who voted against Trump during the impeachment proceedings, many of whom are facing primary challengers and censures from local parties.
