Ann Coulter, Resistance Hero

 

Long ago, when I was a guest on someone else's Liberal turf a couple of years ago, I was gently lectured about the importance of  not criticizing any of our new Republican "allies" or questioning any of their past actions as long as now they are willing to call Trump a poopy poop head because "all hands on deck" and "the enemy of my Gemini is my nominee" and whatnot.  

As I recall,  I asked whether or not Ann Coulter was our ally (and should therefor get a pass on all of her past horrendous behavior) because she had called Trump a poopy poop head?  But then she stopped calling him a poopy poop head and started calling him an awesome superman, so what's up with that?

I don't recall ever getting an satisfactory answer.  

See, since Liberal High Command has never actually forwarded copies of the new Redemption Rule down to us grunts in the trenches, we have been forced to try to deduce the nuances around how those the rules are applied from the various  scoldings we get from the chain of command.  And while I think I know what the new Rules are, I am completely confused about who qualifies and why and when.

So was there a period during which Ann Coulter was our ally and entitled to have all the horrendous shit she had said and done since the 1990s  whitewashed away?  And when the inevitable heel-turn came, was her past supposed to be un-whitewash?  And, if so, how exactly was that supposed work?

The reason I ask is, well, what are we to make of Ann Coulter -- author of "In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!" -- speaking bravely out to her [checks notes] two million social media followers that Trump is, in fact, a poopy poop head? (h/t Alter Reader Kevin for bringing this important development to my attention!):

Why, in the last 12 days of his presidency, did Donald Trump suddenly become the authoritarian of liberal fantasies? He sure wasn’t an authoritarian for the past four years — he was a spineless wonder.

Is she an ally again?  Do we have to get the whitewash buckets out of the barn again and re-whitewash that which we just got finished un-whitwashing?  Because I've gotta tell you, this de-allying and re-allying is getting exhausting:

Because those are the rules now.  Saying discouraging words about Donald Trump is the shibboleth -- the magic code that grants anyone ouchless absolution and premium lifeboat seating no matter who you are of what you have said or done before this very moment. 

Not my rules, mind you.  In fact I objected to them very strongly, because as much as I believe in absolution, I also know that absolution that is not preceded by sincere confession, repentance and atonement is bullshit.  

But I was overruled by Liberal High Command, so those are the rules now.
