About defining the center: in 1988 while we were going a few rounds with homelessness, we briefly stayed in a warehouse space where a potter worked and some friends of ours tried unsuccessfully to grow pot. It was on Union Street in Oakland in an area that was referred to at the time as "the industrial wasteland" and right across the street from a genuine landmark blues club called The Deluxe Inn.
Late one Friday night, some of our friends returned from a party in San Francisco with a troubled young woman in tow, substances were ingested, and the young woman had a psychotic episode, during which she managed to climb to the highest, farthest back corner of the building from which she began to preach loudly, for a couple of hours before we figured a way to safely extract her and get her back on the ground again.
Her sermon included some genuinely bizarre conspiratorial stuff which she wrapped up in a nice little batshit bow by accusing my friend Jack, whose space it was, of being the center of a web of evil.
So now when I hear the goddamn never Trumper Republicans trying to plant their little flag and claim the reasonable center for their very own, in my head I hear my friend Jack as he answered the phone (remember answering the phone?) for the week after that night: "Web of evil, center speaking."
And on the choices for cabinet positions: We're seeing the inverse property of "the Republican party is full of Republicans" play out, in that the Democratic party is full of Democrats, and even if Biden gets legislatively hamstrung, his presidency will have been at least a modest success because of the team he is assembling to run the government.
Thank you again for the podcast. It's fucking cold here, and the walk back down the hill from the mailbox today was dicey as hell because of all of the ice on the road.
The vole that the cat brought in while we were at the store last week has taken up residence under the wooden stairs that lead down to the road from here, and in honor of John Oliver, we have named him Herbert.

You said they say, "the 2000 [transition] didn't have riots."

You tell them, 'the hell it didn't.'

When it comes to Steve Schmidt and his success going through republican rehab.

making amends for his misdeeds and harm for all those loyally anything goes needs atoning for ham to find a different head rest than, "my pillow" to lay his head on and sleep.

But I welcome his vote. it is one less ballot cast against humanity.

All his patriotic, flag worshipping speeches of his very deep cares of America never included all Americans. Only the superior republican ones. Freedoms weren't for everyone all those years. The right wing billionaires were mighty generous financially to Schmidt.

As for him being a spokes person for the Democratic party. May he realize his voice, his freedom f speech is equal to his new found fellow Democratic voter. Our networks that try to entertain us with news and yes, "gossip and rhetoric" dazzle us with invoking words of compromise with the scutages of the earth after they imposed their QANON holocaust by a slim partisan majority. As they called Democrats , Ramming health care down our throsats to kill grandma".
There are many recovering right wingers. There seems to be a pattern, Being shunned by their own, condemned as a RINO, purged from the GOP as a liberal enemy. Separation and fleeing to the sage abuse house of Independent. Were few, like Schmidt. if honest in his self assessment. realizes the purgatory of Independent has nothing solid to stand on and nothing but "my Pillow" to lay your head.
