Birthday Fundraiser: Day Four -- I Have Now Lived Long Enough To See...

(Me on the left +50 years ago & me on the right today.)

...a press release from The Intercept today announcing the shambolic departure of its founder --

GLENN GREENWALD’S DECISION to resign from The Intercept stems from a fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship. Glenn demands the absolute right to determine what he will publish. He believes that anyone who disagrees with him is corrupt, and anyone who presumes to edit his words is a censor. Thus, the preposterous charge that The Intercept’s editors and reporters, with the lone, noble exception of Glenn Greenwald, have betrayed our mission to engage in fearless investigative journalism because we have been seduced by the lure of a Joe Biden presidency. A brief glance at the stories The Intercept has published on Biden will suffice to refute those claims.

The narrative Glenn presents about his departure is teeming with distortions and inaccuracies — all of them designed to make him appear as a victim, rather than a grown person throwing a tantrum. It would take too long to point them all out here, but we intend to correct the record in time. For now, it is important to make clear that our goal in editing his work was to ensure that it would be accurate and fair. While he accuses us of political bias, it was he who was attempting to recycle the dubious claims of a political campaign — the Trump campaign — and launder them as journalism...

-- which reads damn near exactly like what I was writing about Spleenwald and getting slagged for by my "allies" back in 2013.

I have also lived long enough to see the almost-overnight rise of a large and extremely profitable ecosystem of Never Trump Conservative online publications, podcasts, books, teevee appearances and videos all of which sound as if they were lifted directly from what I have been writing about the Right and the media since I began blogging in 2005.

And here I am, still living off of a tip jar.

Funny old world :-)

I was hoping to hear something from you about Spleenwald whining that the publication he co-founded was part of the "Dem establishment"...

I'm so old I remember that 68% of people polled and back in the day, 72ish, that 90% white people polled were white, wanted William Calley pardoned. Republicans mostly and soon to be Reagan Democrats. Pardoned for machine gunning to death 170 or so old men women and some infants too. Now truth be told hundreds of American pilots killed far more people in the morning and made it back to base for drinks in the afternoon but most people sort of let such murders in the course of war, from a distance, get a moral pass. Still I had thought at the time a guy slaughtering innocents face to face would trouble more Americans. Afraid not. Which pretty much set me up as an apostate white American.

I was just going to send you this but as always you're way ahead of me. It's been painful watching Ol' Glenn and Matt Taibbi descend into the muck and mire of right wing assjuice.

It's because, for all the things Captain Bareback was and is demonstrably, horribly wrong about, there's one thing he was and is demonstrably, horribly right about:

[I]n Mr. Sullivan's world, "Liberal" does not refer to a political ideology, but to an impoverishing political ghetto from which no amount of "being right about everything" will permit you to achieve escape velocity. In Mr. Sullivan's world, "Liberal" is a terrible disease that afflicts losers who do not get invited to spout their views on teevee.

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

Excuse me, I'm gonna go put "Schadenfreude" from Avenue Q on PERMANENT LOOP.

*CACKLES*

This has been a long time coming, and I feel personally liberated, after trusting that fuckwad for so long during the Bush years. I was a blogging naif back then. I even bought this mutherfucker's books.

Time to activate his ex-fil plan and contact his rezident at the Russian Embassy.

Nailed it. Amen.
I did think Taibbi hit some better stuff in his time (which I now realize must have been from some really good sources in the financial community rather than any brilliant analysis on his part).
Greenwald was always an odd duck - what was his BS about being a "Constitutional lawyer"? Not one of your usual lawyer subcategories, you know, like "tax", "personal injury", "corporate"?

On my note from comments circulating through me today, first what Rash Lamebrain whined and second a Hillary holler-back, I foresee

Bill and Hill turn to each other, foreheads touch eyes shut, and pause while the rest of the cortege leaves, only the ground crew and hip-joined Secret Service detail.
Then they walk together and directly, unrehearsed in perfect unison, forward to stand and squat and piss on Rash Lamebrain's grave.

It's your own fault for not getting copyright!

Just for LOLS you should send a copyright/plagiarism/infringement warning to a Never Trumper who gets close enough to your work for casuals to go "perhaps".

They'll dismiss it naturally as a reflex (and they will be legally correct), but hopefully they'll do it publicly, using it as material - allowing you a moment's spotlight to tear into them as a rebuttal.

I pegged him even during his "I hate GWB" days. I can't remember exactly what started my ganglia twitching, but it was something in his writing that made me think I was missing a large part of his id. So I and a colleague spent some time on an adventureous hunt to find out about his past and lo and behold we found the porn/Russian connection and a few other odds and ends. Afterwards I decided I would go back and re-read his work and it looked very different through a Russian lens, but it made more sense because it finally answered my question, why is he writing this stuff when he is the most illiberal man I've ever read? The only thought that went through my head after every article was this guy is a phony, but why would anyone fake being Liberal? Ain't for the money is it DG? And no one big paid any attention to him until he began his attack on the Liberals schtick. And you know you can always count on our illustrious Media assholes -- they would have invited Hitler to sit on their Sunday morning roundtable so a Russian asset ain't shit compared to that.

Good morning, Mr. Glass.

Julian Assange, Lara Logan, Glenn Greenwald. Hell, even David Gregory was worth a damn during the Bush II administration. Whahappen?

Best to you and your loved ones.
