“The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.” -- George Orwell, 1984
These days Matthew Dowd likes telling other pundits that they should publicly admit when they get big, important things wrong.
For all those commentators/pundits/media who said Trump had a very effective convention at the time, you might want to publicly say you were wrong. He didn’t change the polls at all, and his job approval is still exceedingly negative. Waiting.....— Matthew Dowd (@matthewjdowd) September 3, 2020
But back in the Before Time, Matthew Dowd really, really hated it when disreputable Liberal bloggers pressed him to admit that he had gotten big, important things wrong.

Well you see kids, back in the Before Time, the Beltway Media Conventional Wisdom declared that the blackest heresy of all was to speak the simple truth that our two parties and the two candidates for president were in no way equivalent. The Both Sides Do It lie was holy writ and reciting it in print and on teevee paid extremely well, and so the American voting public was carpet-bombed with that grotesque lie every fucking day by respectable stooges in suits like Mr. Dowd while disreputable Liberals who said otherwise were pushed even further into the corner.
However now that everything those disreputable Liberals warned was going to happen has happened -- now that the Republican Party no longer even bothers to pretend that it's anything other than a shitpile of bigots and imbeciles all the way down -- by and large the Beltway Media has had to dial back on the Both Sides Do It lie, at least until there is a Democrat in the White House and they can begin bitching about the deficit again.
But that leaves them with a new problem: How to admit that our two parties and the two candidates for president are in no way equivalent without also admitting that all those pundits who have been out there loyal preaching the gospel of Both Sides Do It for years were wrong? And more vexing still, how to walk back decades of Both Sides Do It lies without admitting that the disreputable Left was right about the Right (and about the Beltway pundits who enabled the Right) all along?
Well kids, it turns out that if you control the cameras and the microphones and the printing presses and you hold the livelihoods of the Beltway punditocracy in the palm of your hand, it's actually pretty easy. You simply let the word go forth that there was no Before Time.
That the history of all Beltway political punditry prior to 2016 is somehow dim and distant and unknowable.
That we have always been at war with East Asia.
And that the Left, with its extensive public record of dire warning that this darkness was coming, does not exist at all.

With corporate news anchors like this, why not self flog and watch the FOX.
Dateline, Southern Oregon, Labor day, 09/07/2020. A pickup truck was seen displaying two flags from just behind the cab of the truck. Both flags were the size of the trucks bed. One flags was a Trump reelection flag, the other flag was a slightly altered representation of the flag of the United States of America as drawn by President Trump while participating in an arts-and-crafts activity at Nationwide Children's Hospital — and Trump seemed to color an American flag wrong, on paper with an outline of the flag, during a photo-op with the kids.
The flag on the truck was painted with a white background, black stars, blue stripes with one darker colored blue stripe than the others. While the fans of President Trump obviously added more alterations to its coloring than the President's, the darker blue stripe was noted.
It was a fine example of Matthew Dowd's "Both sides do it." As the history of Presidents participating in arts-and-crafts activity's at Nationwide Children's Hospitals of coloring in the flag, on paper with an outlined representation of the flag, have shown.
Don't color outside the lines Mr. President, as the kids like to make fun of you if you do.
Sempai noticed me! I'm your final retweet.
Speaking of idiots who refuse to learn and continue to push the same stupid idiocy, anyone see that Spleenwald released an entire article defending Donald Trump from the Atlantic article claims about disparaging veterans by ATTACKING ANONYMOUS SOURCES, of all things?
