The Return of the "Independent" Granfalloon

It's been over a decade since I penned this column ("The 'Independent' Granfalloon") about the Beltway media's favorite "...proud and meaningless association of human beings"

It was a long post (as was the fashion at the time) written just before the invention of the Republican rebranding scam known as the "Tea Party" -- back when Republicans were scrambling to find any bit os available flotsam which would carry them safely away from the eight year Bush Clusterfuck which they had So Very Loudly endorsed.

Suddenly millions of swaggering, brain-dead assholes were tearing up their Bush/Cheney lawn signs are declaring themselves to be "independents".   Bush who?  Never heard of the guy.

And it will come as no surprise that one of the very first professional Republican pundits to turn his hand to the lifeboat building business was Bush hype-man and Iraq War Enthusiast, David Fucking Brooks.  Who, after stitching together a couple of snippets from a couple of polls into a big, floppy sack, dumped every loose button and paper-clip of his own privileged, white, suburban, middle-aged, Boomer Burkean bourgeoisie terror into it and called it analysis...

And ever since, slathering on the "independent" clown make-up t escape accountability for all the monstrous shit they routinely say and do has been the average Republican's all-occasion go-to move, which is why it will also come as no surprise that Republican COVIDIOTS are trying to run the same old play.

So I'll end this post the same way I ended my column from 2009:

Most newly minted “independents” seem to be little more than Republicans who are fleeing the scene of their crime, but at the same time still desperately want believe in the inerrant wisdom of Rush Limbaugh. They are completely incapable of facing the horrifying reality that they have gotten every single major political opinion and decision of their adult lives completely wrong, so instead they double-down on their hatred of women and/or gays and/or brown people and/or Liberals, and blame them for the miserable fuckpit their leaders and their policies have made of their lives and futures.

Like German soldiers after the fall of Berlin, they have stopped running away from the catastrophe they created only long enough to burn their uniforms...
