The First Sentence of David Brooks' Column Today...

...may be the most accidentally glorious summary of Mr. Brooks entire career (and the epitaph that should have been chiseled on the tombstone of the Beltway media a decade ago) that I have ever read:
It was yet another epic failure of political punditry.
Also this line, in which Brooks rubs his employer's noses in their own impotence, is pretty amazing:
It’s the 947th consecutive sign that we in the coastal chattering classes have not cured our insularity problem.
Quite the confession.  Guess what?  Driftglass has been right all along!  Bwahahaha!  We really are all wildly overpaid hacks and fuck-ups who get everything wrong all the time, but somehow we can never be fired!  Wheeeee!

The rest of it is typical, anemic type-by-numbers Brooksian codswallop that you needn't bother wasting one minute of your precious time reading.

If only we applied the gop preach down ideology they dump on labor unions. Their condemnations of teachers. Lack of religious persecuting from the secular courtrooms. If only they applied those gop superior beliefs as standards to the rights very own independent non union mindd. Whotell others they are low life's without soul or purpose blamed on their associations. If standards set for Brooks and his strained documenting writings to nowhere. Might not provide connected failures as Brooks no elitist refuge to live a comfortable little on a charitable salary others must actually earn by their merit.
