The Bot Whipped up the Raging Mob,*

From whence all reason'd fled;
The flame they'd lit had done the job,
And the Party of Lincoln was dead...

In our previous chapter of  "The Adventures of the Hugh Hewitt -- The Cyborg Sent from the Future to Destroy America", Mr. Hewitt had given up his doomed attempts to mimic human emotions and had gone into into full-blown, raving Thrash Mode.

This week we find Mr. Hewitt, finally relieved of the exhausting burden of faking human empathy and kindness, really leaning hard into his newly-liberated, out-and-proud unhinged killbot persona.
The Kavanaugh hearings were another rumbling of the volcano. And the left can’t hear it.

...
When pundits talk of a “cold civil war” in the country, they mark themselves as ignorant of the real thing. Far from real war, the civil tension in the country isn’t even close to 1960s levels of violence, much less the sort of actual war that once convulsed the country in the 1860s. Screaming demonstrators at hearings jar. But they aren’t the Weathermen terrorizing the 1960s, not the Oklahoma City bombing, not the Fort Hood massacre.

Yet...

Yes, according to Mr. Hewitt we Libtards who publicly shame the degenerates and liars to whom he. owes unswerving allegiance are apparently just a hop, skip and jump away from blowing up a federal building or bombing abortion clinics or assassinating abortion providers or strapping ourselves up with assault weapons and taking to streets screaming about the blood of patriots or sucker-punching the opposition at a political rally or The Purge:
...It is a step back toward the tragedy that unfolded only last year when a deranged Bernie Sanders supporter tried to gun down the GOP caucus at baseball practice.

...Though Donald Trump is not anyone’s idea of a conventional president, Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh is not only extraordinarily qualified but also a deeply conventional choice. So when arguments about process failed, that part of the left that demands power above all other things turned to character assassination.

Media elites locked inside “blue bubble” newsrooms don’t see, hear or feel it. Just as they didn’t see, hear, or feel the 2016 volcano’s rumblings either...
While Mr. Hewitt predictably tags every wingnut base and rings every wingnut bell, it is always extra super-rich to see someone who --
...worked as a ghostwriter for Richard Nixon in California and New York, before studying at the University of Michigan Law School, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. Hewitt received his J.D. degree in 1983, then moved to Washington D.C. to clerk for Judges Roger Robb and George MacKinnon on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1983–84.

Hewitt worked in many posts in the Reagan administration, including Deputy Director and General Counsel of the Office of Personnel Management, General Counsel for the National Endowment for the Humanities, Assistant White House Counsel and Special Assistant to the Attorney General. Hewitt returned to California in 1989 to oversee construction of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum as the library's executive director from groundbreaking through dedication and opening...
-- rail against the "media elites" locking inside their bubble.

And, as always, Mr. Hewitt took his curdling lunacy to Twitter after he finished his contractually-obligated 800 words for The Washington Post.

You know, some of my friends think (or at least hope) that there is some bottom to the Republican sewer.  That eventually some kind of collective GOP gag reflex will kick in.  Eventually they'll get so sick of being lied to and played for chumps that they'll stop.  Fade away.

I tell them no.  That there is no bottom.

The Right will back any pervert or lunatic or fraud who tells them the lies they want to believe and will burn down anyone or anything that tries to take their lies away from them, for one, simple reason.  Without their lies they have nothing.  They are nothing.

Without their lies they would be standing naked and exposed to the whole world as the pathetic, sadistic freaks that they are.  From Adam Serwer in The Atlantic:

The Cruelty Is the Point
President Trump and his supporters find community by rejoicing in the suffering of those they hate and fear.

Even those who believe that Ford fabricated her account, or was mistaken in its details, can see that the president’s mocking of her testimony renders all sexual-assault survivors collateral damage. Anyone afraid of coming forward, afraid that she would not be believed, can now look to the president to see her fears realized. Once malice is embraced as a virtue, it is impossible to contain...

The cruelty of the Trump administration’s policies, and the ritual rhetorical flaying of his targets before his supporters, are intimately connected. As Lili Loofbourow wrote of the Kavanaugh incident in Slate, adolescent male cruelty toward women is a bonding mechanism, a vehicle for intimacy through contempt. The white men in the lynching photos are smiling not merely because of what they have done, but because they have done it together...

...Trump’s only true skill is the con; his only fundamental belief is that the United States is the birthright of straight, white, Christian men, and his only real, authentic pleasure is in cruelty. It is that cruelty, and the delight it brings them, that binds his most ardent supporters to him, in shared scorn for those they hate and fear: immigrants, black voters, feminists, and treasonous white men who empathize with any of those who would steal their birthright. The president’s ability to execute that cruelty through word and deed makes them euphoric. It makes them feel good, it makes them feel proud, it makes them feel happy, it makes them feel united. And as long as he makes them feel that way, they will let him get away with anything, no matter what it costs them.

And so this cult of vicious, old, white bigots -- who would rather scoop their own eyes out with a melon-baller than risk glancing in the mirror -- just grinds on and on, like a garbage truck full of old dynamite driving across a rotting, wood-plank bridge, getting more and more volatile and deadly with every passing day.

The GOP built an entire politic party out of such creatures: held it together and propelled it forward by feeding their rage and paranoia.

So of course it was going to end with a lying racist traitor in the White House, nominating a lying, political hit-man to the Supreme Court, whose sham nomination is orchestrated by a smirking reptile who broke the Senate to get 'er done.  And all of it bitterly defended by the world's most infamous cyborg sent from the future to destroy America.

How else could it have ended?

'...this cult of vicious, old, white bigots." Don't forget the enablers of this cult that include those that are just as much victims of these monsters as the rest of us. Collins, Murkowski, those that vote against there interests to make liberals cry, your crazy brother-in-law with a child that has a pre-existing condition who may never be able to get medical insurance in the future, and most of all the women enablers. The 52% of White woman that voted for Trump and the ones that sat behind Kavanaugh during the hearings and yes, the mothers that raise the boys that become the Kavanaughs.
