Sure, Tom Robinson's testimony was honorable, honest, detailed and painfully compelling, but in the end they found Mayella's tearful, belligerent rant punctuated with threats of revenge too persuasive to ignore.
After all she's a card-carrying member of their little club.
And Tom most definitely is not.
UPDATE: As a sop to the Democrats, at the request of Jeff Flake, the committee included a literally-last-minute pretty-please request for a one-week FBI investigation which depends entirely on both Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump behaving honorably and with great reverence for the institutions over which they now rule.

But wait, Fergus just told the FBI to reopen Rapey McRaperson's background check because he didn't have the votes to confirm him...
Maybe all of those gratuitous attacks on Flake weren't such a good idea after all.
