Death of the Cool

New York Time's employee and America's Most Ubiquitous Conservative Public Intellectual, David Brooks, spends an entire column explaining what "cool" means

No.  I'm not kidding.

How Cool Works in America Today
The cool person is...
Then, inevitably, comes the several paragraphs of paraphrasing someone else's work.
In his entertaining book “The Origins of Cool in Postwar America,”...

Dinerstein shows that cool isn’t just a style...

It emerged specifically within African-American culture...

Cool had other social meanings...

To be cool was to be a moral realist...

In an interview, I asked Dinerstein if cool was dead...
Then, inevitably, the Blob of Mayonnaise That Walks Like A Man dives right in and starts gassily opining about That Which He Does Not Know Shit.
I started to look around to see if there might be another contemporary ethos that has replaced the cool ethos.

A better candidate is the “woke” ethos.
Jesus take the wheel.
The modern concept of woke began, as far as anybody can tell, with a 2008 song by Erykah Badu. The woke mentality became prominent in 2012 and 2013 with the Trayvon Martin case and the rise of Black Lives Matter. Embrace it or not, B.L.M. is the most complete social movement in America today, as a communal, intellectual, moral and political force.
And of course, peering from his orbital platform high above planet Earth and the lives of actual humans, the Blob of Cultural Appropriation That Walks Like A Man decides that what the whole concept of "woke" really needs is a big helping of Both Siderism.

Because everything goes better with a big helping of Both Siderism!
The woke mentality has since been embraced on the populist right, by the conservative “normals” who are disgusted with what they see as the thorough corruption of the Republican and Democratic establishments. See Kurt Schlichter’s Townhall essay “We Must Elect Senator Kid Rock” as an example of right-wing wokedness.
It's going to be a long, long day.

"...woke mentality has since been embraced on the populist right..."

Like everything related to coolness since at least 1900, BFD's does in job in appropriating the actions of our oppressed minorities and applies them to suburban and exburban white working professionals to cover for the nation destroying hatred, fear, ignorance, and bigotry coming from people who damn well know better but actively chose not to every god damn day.

Just how the fuck can the people who, since 2014, have nodded along to pundit debates on whether BLM was a domestic terrorist organization and what to do about it be the "woke" ones?

How can the man who used his oligarchy apologist column to tone police Coates for getting too uppity in his book actually decide what "woke" even fucking means?

Listen up daddio. Mr square otherwise known as Brooks.

It is not "cool" to a "Woke" from a conservative coma to find a purging of sanity by the extremes of your own GOP. There is no fit for the nowhere man and it leaves you wanting. Over zealous and unrestrained to be part of something that demands you live in the heat of the desert when your doctor tells you a health condition you have prescribes you to live in the milder, cooler regions.

Hang on a bit longer,David Brooks.

Conservatives have your replacement being groomed down on the farm club AA level.. Hew Hewitt cannot hit the "Mendoza line". As yet. His sloppy defensive skills causes to many errors mainly in the Bothsider stat.
he is getting playing time in the Bush league to polish his bat knob.
He will be brought up to the "Show" as soon as possibly ready (or not).

We may need to contract ectend Brools a bit longer.

DFB can't even make it to his bullshit-term-du-jour without a foundation of lies. Like calling it the "populist right". That is some high-grade bullshit right there. "Populist" doesn't mean "right wing Pig Person" you coprophagic imbecile, that assumes that the population at large could be described as right wing Pig People, and the goddamn numbers don't support that at all.

Molly Ivins was a populist.

But just to go along with the bullshit, I mean premise, a "woke" right wing populist is a Pig Person who has already had their dose of meth for the day.

One of the best definitions I ever read of "cool" is Minimum Possible Reaction. It implies acceptance of the world as it is, with no false perceptions. It implies an unwillingness to judge others or to make them conform to your standards, along with a reluctance to conform to theirs.
I can't offhand think of a single cool conservative or right-winger. Maybe Willia F. buckley
