We Interrupt Today's Blogging For The Following Announcement

The Intercept -- that bane of drooling, jackbooted, mindless McCarthyite Obots everywhere -- would really appreciate it if everybody would just be really, really cool about that whole unfortunate "drooling, jackbooted, mindless McCarthyite" business while they read the following...

TOP-SECRET NSA REPORT DETAILS RUSSIAN HACKING EFFORT DAYS BEFORE 2016 ELECTION

June 5 2017, 2:44 p.m.

RUSSIAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE executed a cyberattack on at least one U.S. voting software supplier and sent spear-phishing emails to more than 100 local election officials just days before last November’s presidential election, according to a highly classified intelligence report obtained by The Intercept.

The top-secret National Security Agency document, which was provided anonymously to The Intercept and independently authenticated, analyzes intelligence very recently acquired by the agency about a months-long Russian intelligence cyber effort against elements of the U.S. election and voting infrastructure. The report, dated May 5, 2017, is the most detailed U.S. government account of Russian interference in the election that has yet come to light.

While the document provides a rare window into the NSA’s understanding of the mechanics of Russian hacking, it does not show the underlying “raw” intelligence on which the analysis is based. A U.S. intelligence officer who declined to be identified cautioned against drawing too big a conclusion from the document because a single analysis is not necessarily definitive.

The report indicates that Russian hacking may have penetrated further into U.S. voting systems than was previously understood. It states unequivocally in its summary statement that it was Russian military intelligence...
I don't follow the antics of the Spleenwald Horde/Purity Angels as closely as I used to, but I believe this leaves The Young Turks as one of the last major contender left standing for the title of "The Orly Taitz of Russian Election Hacking Denialism."
And in the end, the can be only one

It is worth noting that just because the Intercept is coming around, it doesn't necessarily follow that Greenwald has. My guess is that he'll just stop talking about it.

On the other hand, Omidyar must not be getting results out of Trump.

Greenwald's line on Twitter:

Journalism requires that document be published and reported. Rationality requires it be read skeptically.

GG probably had nothing to do with the report since he's still denying it.

Interesting to see if he'll go all in on defending the leaker, Reality Winner, the same way he has Snowden and Manning. Would it be too cynical of me to suggest only if he can get something out of it?

Either we're reaching the point where Team Trump is changing from an asset to liability, therefore marching orders are changing....or more likely the Intercept finally has a headline that would make prime time media give a shit about something called the Intercept....

There has been a number of reporting of Ruskies hacking in to voter registration role. From many reports they used them to identify HRC voters to hit them with their Bear-bots. The persuasive propaganda right Russian wing stuff.
This Government report is clear to everyone but Trump that the China was not the culprit. A validation even many vacillated conservative lips will have a rough time to spin. There mantra has been, "if there was influencing or hacking by Russia it did not effect the election".
But how would they know if they haven't investigated it. I have not seen any peer reviewed reports from congressional investigations, have you? I mean, Nunes is giving it his best, right?

What I like about this coming out now is that the chocolate cake bragadosher is going to have a more high profiled time handing back the mansion back to Putin after Obama kick them out and took it away. Because {resident Putin's a American jock strap had been ready to hand it back. By gones be by gones and Russian spies back in business in America. One step closer to lifting sanctions.
It is going to raise the criticism of the Donald if he follows through. Public should be able to see if Trump used Congress in this to wipe his ass with. The stench is worse than getting skunk off (I hear).

The Intercept reporter apparently blabbed the location of the leaker, the lady named Reality Winner. He was seeking confirmation of the document's veracity and straight up told the NSA the Florida town she worked in making it easy to ID and arrest her. Fucking smooth move, Greenwaldians- you betrayed your source, the Intercept cannot be trusted.

There was a time we weren't supposed to trust anyone over 30.

Now it is the opposite.
