Professional Left Podcast #388

"If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power."

Semi-apostate-but-mainly-Trump-hating Republican Charlie Sykes has had an epiphany.

It seems the GOP has ``almost morphed into a party dedicated to trolling the left.''

*Almost*

I'm so glad the guy who made his living bashing Obama and the Democratic Party on his Wisconsin radio show until Trump was nominated could explain that for me.

Good morning, Mr. Glass.

Wait. Did Middle Child just call Ms. Gal, "Frances?" Or was that a reference to a Twitter Frances/Francis?

Be seeing you.

driftglass,

If you're going to hold Republicans accountable, and I think you should, best to do it with facts.

Take, for example, your throwaway line about a lot of southern states changing their flags around the mid-sixties to incorporate elements of the Confederate flag. It wasn't even necessary to drive home your point. It turns out the only southern state to redesign its flag in that manner around that time was Georgia in 1956.

There is only one other state that explicitly incorporates the Confederate battle flag into its state flag - Mississippi, which adopted its amalgam of the battle flag and the stars and bars in 1894. In keeping with the State's long history of enlightened thinking, the voters rejected a new, less offensive flag in a referendum in 2001 by a margin of 64% to 36%.

On the other hand, the Ole Miss football team did not adopt the nickname "Rebels" until 1936 and the "tradition" of waving the Confederate battle flag at Ole Miss home football games did not begin until the late 1940s.

The history of institutionalized racism in our country is ugly and still within the living memory of millions of baby boomers and their surviving parents -- so it is truly amazing and disgusting how we persist in sweeping it under the rug and talking about it in euphemism and pretending it doesn't exist.

How fitting and ironic that the Confederate navy's ensign, which had the battle flag in the upper left hand corner and was otherwise all white, is referred to as the "Stainless Banner", when in fact that flag lives in infamy, soaked in the blood of African Americans drawn with the lash over 150 years of slavery and the blood of over 600,000 Americans drawn with the sword in the war that ended slavery -- those are stains that can never be eradicated.

Ore disposition on pre existing conditions (health care), as a state choice.

No doubt republican governors are going to file for exemption of pre existing conditions. They are the same ones that refused the Medicaid expansion. Refused to get involved in any way except, to do everything they could to undermine the ACA.
Republicans have a pre existing mental illness and like Typhoid Mary, They do not want any stinkin' sciencey vaccine that would give them an unwanted boner while in the midst of gay men. They want viagra (boner on demand). While they spread their illness with too many people with weak communities.

As I caught news out of N.C. state senate controlled by GOP with a vengeance they use their powered majorities to punish democrats by de funding education funding only in democratic school districts..!!!!

This is the microscopic visual of the larger GOP disease across the nation..

How republicans without a conscience continue to get votes from "people", neighbors, family members.
Tax cuts to the wealthy for them to provide future donations and conservative dark money funding for elections and the voter suppress ions (lest we forget.

I agree that the have-your-own-server thing is brilliant and important because certain resources seem to have a way of disappearing from places like YouTube.
Another breath-of-fresh-air podcast, much needed in the midst of all of the lies and insanity, thank you very much indeed.

@HenryFTP, There are other symbols of the Confederacy besides that particular design.

Georgia's current flag strongly resembles the original flag of the Confederacy. (Its 1956 version incorporated the Confederate battle flag design.)
AL and FL flags both contain a red St. Andrew's cross specifically as reminder of the blue one on the battle flag.
The AR flag's center has 4 stars. The one above the state name represents the Confederacy.

Save GA, all the other designs were adopted long before the 1950s.
