Great to hear @matthewjdowd address business leaders. "Capitalism is a force for good." It a moment of optimism & hope. #ILBizDay2017 pic.twitter.com/XLJhYdVKJ0— Mark Denzler (@IllinoisMfgAssc) April 26, 2017

Dowd: "The fastest growing group of voters we have today are independents" #ILBizDay2017— IMA TODAY (@IMA_Today) April 26, 2017
But they're not a "group", Mr. Dowd.
As I patiently explained back in 2009 as Bush regime dead-enders were frantically rebranding themselves as "independents" to avoid being held accountable for all of the shit they had talked for eight long years, they're what Kurt Vonnegut called a Granfalloon.
A "...proud and meaningless association of human beings".
And telling them fairy tales that cater to their delusions and self-regard is clearly the most secure and profitable scam in journalism.

"Independents" are lying to themselves. Most of them are either left-leaning "independents" who vote the straight Democratic ticket or right-leaning "independents" who vote the straight Republican ticket. Independents who are genuine swing-voting centrists are, I think, too busy frolicking with the great albino elk to actually vote. All of this is well documented, but I guess the chief political analyst of ABC News is much too busy coming up with witty ways to say "both sides do it" to read anything about American politics.

Just remove the skin of a toy balloon."
As some wise man once said:
Johnny's in the basement mixing up the medicine; I'm on the pavement, thinking 'bout the government.
I'm on the pavement too.
Streetfuckinglevel.
"Dowd: "On Election Day, we end up with immensely flawed candidates and parties that are both disliked"
Profoundly,
on election day we are left with media pundits that are immensely flawed. Before and after the election, mind you.
Left with huge divide, where many (good people like Dowd) want Cesar salad and the other siders (lock stepped in there rustic appetites) want a garden salad.. Of course there is those honorable mentions that feel so very strong about everyone must have a Palin word salad.
Going to an establishment that offers a menu to serve everyone must be determined by the powerful, wealthy, religious, fiscally controlling, ordained republicans that decide what conservatism is at the moment.
The Alternative fact of the matter,
The, can't we all just get along, Never applies to certain Dowd's republicans. Obstruction for 8 years by GOP, demanding a president provide birth certificate because he is black and GOP don't like him.
Dowd should jolt his memory loss with a stroll down GOP filibuster lane during the Obama Adm.
