Words, Words, Words

Former Bush speechwriter and persistent Beltway stalactite, Michael Gerson, is worried that dehumanizing language deployed by political movements against outsiders and minorities can lead to trouble:
This is a vicious and dangerous cycle: dehumanizing rhetoric, leading to distrust of government and law enforcement, contributing to tragedies that feed dehumanizing rhetoric. Both our ideals and our safety are compromised when politicians provide permission for bigotry.
So true and well said Michael!

And hey, apropos of nothing, remember how much fun it was being a Liberal in American when Micheal Gerson's former boss was running the show?
Mr. Rove made the comments at a fund-raiser in Manhattan on Wednesday, saying: "Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

"Conservatives saw what happened to us on 9/11 and said, 'We will defeat our enemies,"' Mr. Rove continued at a gathering in Midtown for the Conservative Party of New York State. "Liberals saw what happened to us and said, 'We must understand our enemies."'
How restrained the rhetoric was?

And how the wingnuts who elected Micheal Gerson's boss were encouraged to calm the fuck down?

The bad news is, all of this happened many thousands of years ago and is now lost to human memory so no exact record of who said what about whom exists.

The good news it, I'm sure we have all learned our lesson from those horrendous years when Michael Gerson's boss was running the show and are no longer rewarding people who traffic in lies and hatespeech.

Now Ann Coulter likes Donald Trump so much she's writing a book, 'In Trump We Trust'

...
Coulter will release a new book praising the candidate, "In Trump We Trust: The New American Revolution," this summer, her publisher Sentinel announced.

"In Trump We Trust" will be Coulter's 12th book. Her previous work includes "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," "Mugged: Racial Demagoguery from the Seventies to Obama" and "Adios, America: The Left's Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third World Hellhole."...

Maybe Mr. Gerson needs something more recent and perfect case study to connect the dots.

Mike, remember the first half of 2014 when the media narrative was Clive Bundy and CATO fueled anti-police-jackbooted-government-oppression-of-white-people-is-HERE! shtick, then overnight the same people turned a full 180 back to Law and Order, If-you-are-not-a-criminal-you-have-nothing-to-worry-about Republicans because Obama-hates-police-PC-culture-is-killing-cops-all-lives-matter! all due to the skin color of the people in St. Louis neighborhood angry and frustrated about police behavior?

Recently on the Comcast liberal TV.

All Donald all the time.
Discussion, Ryan and Trump meet. Did they get along. Will Ryan hold out a little longer for publicity before kneeling to his master?

Lets go to Texas GOP House Representative who supports Trump.

Host;
What do you think of Trump now that he is backing away from building the Wall.

Texas GOPer;
Well Trump is a deal maker and has been very successful at what he does.

Host;
But he campaigned on building the Wall and making Mexico pay for it. Being from Texas you has a certain expertise on immigration. What is you view.

Texas GOPer;
Well immigration is broken and Obama has done nothing. We need to beat Hillary and immigration is out of control.

Host;
OK but you support Trump with his wall. Do you believe Trump will build the wall? Do you believe Trump will make Mexico pay for it?

GOPer; I don't feel he may get Mexico to pay for it. Trump has built many things and the wall may not materialize. And no, a wall probably won't resolve the problem. But he might put thousands more border patrols in place or something like that.
Host;
So you support Trump for his campaign wall and Mexico pay for it promises even though Trump has now backed away from those promises that rallied his supporters in the first place. And you think it is not realistic nor going to help. But still support him for it?
GOPer;
Hillary Clinton is a horrible human being (snakes and snails and puppy dog tails). Trump thinks out of the box. He will come in and shake things up. We need that because nothing gets done anymore in Washington. Trump is a deal maker and is known for getting things done. And did I say how horrible Hillary is?

Fost;
Well thank you for being here and giving us that insight as a immigration expert being from Texas and a Republican representative from there.

Guess who made a deal with Trump? Harpy Coulter. Coulter will bend her knees to the highest bidder, or frankly to anyone who'll toss her some chump change. Absolutely anyone can knock on her door and she'll answer and invite you in for a bit of you know what. Anything to stay "relevant" and being able to continue to suckle deeply at the rightwingnut welfare teat. Lousy lazy worthless waste of protoplasm, expecting something for nothing? That's Coulter.

The only tiny silver lining is that no one reads her "books," and I think it's just rightwing think tanks - or in this case, maybe the Donald - who buy them in bulk and pass them out to hapless proles at some conventions or other. A real scam, IOW. No surprise.

Re "distrust of government and law enforcement"--I mean, too right. I remember some irresponsible lout actually said "Government is not the solution to our problems; government IS the problem!" But fortunately he was just a minor functionary and no one ever paid any attention.
