Leaving aside for the moment the parentage of this bastard, the pattern of the problem "analysis" used is fascinating.

The problem it seems is not in anybody's stars or fault (not on their side of the aisle anyway), but in some variation of the ancient doctrines of heresy, apostasy or blasphemy. It is indeed the heretics, blasphemers and apostates who have done this to the faithful, not the faithful themselves; it is the others who have raised up this false prophet preaching his false religion using the scripture of the faithful.

This ever recurring return to fighting about who is a "true" conservative, an adherent of the "true" faith [and the importance of faith and belief over facts, data and logic], gives the game away for the one more horseshit con it is.
There are just so many non-believers to deal with! Progressives! Muslims! The Democrat Party! Scary black people! Hordes of brown people who don't even speak English! People who are not descended from Northern European Protestants! And they are all on their way out to the house to kill you, take your money and drink your children's blood!

I briefly sipped at many of the gleanings you turned up and was struck by the MEME of the brain-dead zombieism apostasy, heresy and blasphemy

Creating Trump is not an issue.

STOPPING Trump should be.

Goddamn, we are this close to having a willfully ignorant bully take control of the nation's political house.

Good morning, Mr. Glass.

Interestingly, if you Google "created bernie sanders," you don't get this. When it comes to liberals, the spunk stops here.

Be seeing you.

Mr. Kristof appears to hit the nail on the head at first, except for the "in part" part:
"In part, I think, Republican leaders brought this on themselves. Over the decades they pried open a Pandora’s box, a toxic politics of fear and resentment, sometimes brewed with a tinge of racial animus, and they could never satisfy the unrealistic expectations that they nurtured among supporters." (sound familiar, boys and girls?)

and even more so in the next paragraph:
"Perhaps it started in 1968 with Nixon’s “Southern strategy,” recruiting white segregationists infuriated by the civil rights movement. It then expanded to encompass immigration and the three G’s — God, guns and gays." (ditto)

but then it's the gospel according to Driftglass!

"Of course, Democrats also sometimes campaigned outrageously, and some Republicans scorned the politics of hate." (his example: McCain correcting the rightbot who called Obama an Arab. No example of Democrats "campaigning outrageously is proffered.)

"Political nastiness and conspiracy theories were amplified by right-wing talk radio, television and websites — and, yes, there are left-wing versions as well, but they are much less influential." (His example: NONE)

So it's the Republicans, but REALLY, well, it's both sides, ya know...

Michael Cannon's nonsensical piece in Forbes made my false equivalence meter melt:

"...if you lambast Bush for starting a war, but give Hillary a pass for both Iraq and Libya; then you are adopting one set of rules for your tribe and another set of rules for everyone else."

Ah, I see, so the guy who lied us into war is no more culpable than one of the people he lied to
(via invented intelligence) in order to get his/her support for said war.
WHEEEE! Isn't both siderism FUN?

Ivory Bill Woodpecker said...

One can find fanatical and/or nasty leftists in the USA if one looks hard enough, but Both Siderism ignores the most important difference: The handful of leftist nasties out there don't have Scrooge McDuck subsidizing their rants to a mass audience.

News Flash to the Rapture Cultists: The Antichrist has already come and gone, and his name was Edward Bernays.

Ufotofu9 said...

Wait...Did? Did I create Trump.

Mister Roboto said...

IBW:

Yeah, most left-wing nasties are just obscure yahoo-with-a-website types, along with some assorted knee-jerk nutcases who mostly live in Madison, Wisconsin and San Francisco. Kristof probably just pulled that "Both Siderist" nonsense out of his ass because he knows that keeping his sweet gig at the NYT rather depends upon him doing so from time to time. (Krugman probably gets more of a pass because he's the token in-house liberal.)
