Someone's relapsing/remitting "Pay Attention To Me!" Deficit Disorder is flaring up again:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) defended the controversial enhanced interrogation technique of waterboarding this weekend, and implied that the practice would still be commonplace “if I were in charge.”“They obviously have information on plots to carry out Jihad,” she said at the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual meeting on Saturday evening, referring to prisoners. "Oh, but you can’t offend them, can’t make them feel uncomfortable, not even a smidgen. Well, if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”The remark stands in stark contrast to the opinion of her former running mate, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). The former Republican presidential nominee, who spent more than five years in a prison camp during the Vietnam War, has repeatedly denounced the practice, which he says is torture. In her speech, Palin praised the NRA, a group whose members “are needed now more than ever, because every day we are seeing more and more efforts to strip away our Second Amendment rights," she said.“See, our patience is running thin. It’s being teased and tempted by some intellectual elite in some far distant capital wanting us to abandon even the ideas of the American revolution," she added....
Manufactured out of thin air and based on a complex algorithm that no outsider can understand, raw fascist sadism mixed with constant, whiiiiiiiining indignation over imaginary slights have become the Bitcoin of American Conservatism.

Good afternoon, Mr. Glass.
Quick, smart-assy correction here...
"Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) defended war crimes this weekend"
Enjoy your day.

I swear, it really does seem that a certain segment of power brokers within the GOP are actively pushing for an armed revolution. It's one thing for a Nevada rancher to express these opinions, but they were being mainstreamed on Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, on talk radio, and from several elected Republican officials. And here's Sarah Palin, not too subtley suggesting revolution might be called for.
It astonishes me that as long as Klavern Bundy (thanks for that, BTW) was just an old neo-confederate denying the legitimacy of the federal government and openly calling for an armed uprising, all was cool on the right. The moment he says something about "the negro," they drop him like a hot potato. So, racism is bad but advocating mass murder is okay?
It's going to be interesting to see where all of this leads over the years to come.
I must wonder about the intelligence of the faction of the Malefactors Of Great Wealth who support the Far Right, which calls (usually in dog-whistle tones) for rebellion against the Federal Government.
Do the money boys (and the few money girls) not realize how deeply they depend on the U. S. Govt., and its Warfare State in particular?
Not only does the Warfare State provide many of them with their easy, ill-gotten, crony-capitalist gains through the "defense" industry, but they also depend on the minions of the U. S. Warfare State (the "covert action" sections as well as the straightforward Armed Forces) as Enforcers Of Last Resort when the Malefactors' bought local traitors fail to suppress rebellions by their countrymen against the global hegemony of the MOGW.
If the Stupid Faction of the MOGW succeeds in toppling the Federal Govt. and its Warfare State, how will the MOGW continue to force those countries which used to be called "Third World Nations" to sell the MOGW their labor and natural resources at fire-sale prices?
Mercenaries? After the enraged native rebels record the summary executions of a few mercenaries and upload the recordings to YouTube, I reckon the MOGW will find it hard to hire mercenaries.
No, the whole system will fall, because the Stupid Faction of the MOGW will have destroyed the enforcement mechanism on which all of the MOGW depend.
Babylon's own lords and barons will have chanted down Babylon.
Selah.
Just when you think she can't say anything more stupid, Sarah proves you wrong. The thought that she was even on the GOP ticket still scares the hell out of me.
You know who I really feel sorry for?
Arthur Silber. The man so hard-line on the Constitution, and so firm in his opposition to our Stinking Torture State, that he was the first person I know of to call Glenn Greenwald a sell-out.
He's spent all this time insisting that any objection to Sister Sarah is based on two things: misogyny and nothing else. And now, she's finally and unambiguously landed on the opposite side from him, not just of any issue, but of his Central Issue.
It will be interesting to see whether he ever addresses this, and if so, how.
Sometimes I think I should be surprised by the things that come out of Palin's mouth. And then I remember this -- only slightly edited -- transcript of part of her interview with Katie Couric, and then it all comes back to me.
Katie: Do you read anything?
Palin: Of course!
Katie: Really?
Palin: Oh, wait. No. Shit, my bad.
There should be some rule that every public official--including half-term ex-governors who are stupid as a box of hammers--be obliged undergo two thorough sessions of water-boarding before opining on whether it is "torture."
The same goes for media apologists like shitass Sean Hannity, who offered to be waterboarded for charity, then soiled himself when asked when he would do it. Hannity Explodes After Being Confronted By ThinkProgress About Previous Offer To Be Waterboarded For Charity.
The people who talk glibly about going to war and/or torturing people have never had to do it or have it done to them. The speak from a position of ignorance.
To everything said, I would add:
Plain and simple, she’s a grifter, AKA Lilly Dillon from the movie “The Grifters”. Grifters only care about the money, whatever the mark will buy the grifter will keep selling. They don’t give a fuck about anything else. Anything. If you desire a visual of this in action, please watch the movie.
And the marks are gullible and true believers. A grifters dream if I ever did see one.
As Driftglass and others have said before, we can’t stop pushing back on these bastards. Not ever. It seems a Sisyphean task at times, but there ain’t no where else to go.
Sorry about the truncated mash-up comment about multiple topics of late.
