with Karl "The Math" Rove.
Because sleazy casino moguls are notoriously gentle and forgiving when underlings piss away hundreds of million of their dollars on one "sure thing" bad bet after another.
From "War in Context":
Never thought I'd have a chance to use that classic, Bush-era graphic again (not one of mine, so big h/t to the original artist.)Big losses for casino boss Sheldon Adelson on election night
The Forward reports: It’s been a tough night for Jewish political mega-donor Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas casino magnate who was the biggest political donor of the election cycle.Adelson and his wife had backed Mitt Romney with $20 million in donations to the pro-Romney super PAC. But his spending on failed Republican candidates went well beyond the top of the ticket.Three additional Adelson-backed candidates lost their races tonight. In Virginia, Tim Kaine won the governorship over George Allen, whose super PAC had received $1.5 million from Adelson. In Florida, Bill Nelson won the Senate seat over Connie Mack, who Adelson had backed with $1 million. And in New Jersey, Adelson-backed Orthodox Jewish Republican Shmuley Boteach lost to Democratic incumbent Congressman Bill Pascrell. One bright point for Adelson on a grim evening could be Florida’s 18th Congressional District, where Adelson-backed Republican Allen West is holding on to a slim lead over Democrat Patrick Murphy. But that glimmer appears already lost. As of 7AM Eastern, Murphy is the projected winner.

Maybe Sheldon will gift Kkkarl a free trip to Macau? Strange things happen in Communist China....
Myself, I'd be more than happy to see that graphic in real life if only for payback for Valerie Plame Wilson.

To be fair - probably because they know in the dried-up vestigial husks occupying the cavity normally occupied by a heart that they are representing an ageing, dwindling demographic - it's the norm for "Conservative" bigwigs to tolerate failure in return for undying fealty. By that measure, Karl Rove will probably get to skate on the worst of their retribution, although it's likely they won't let him be in charge again.
As a fellow pop-culture freak, I must say that watching Rove's blustering performance live on Fox News as he tried in vain to make the numbers fit, I couldn't help but be reminded of the scenes in "The Shawshank Redemption" where the warden realises that Dufresne has escaped, and the slow dawning of everything that means - every dirty cent and every hidden crime will come to light and even the fortune he squirrelled away from those actions won't be able to save him.

Sheldon “The uniform that I wore in the military, unfortunately, was not an Israeli uniform. It was an American uniform" Adelson gave more than that. In Sept. it was calculated that his brib...uh, "donations" to Rethuglicans came to $37 million.

I hadn't considered this silver lining of Citizens United v. Civilization before: When the big money playas lose, they eat their strategists.
Ehhhhhxcellent!
To see Rove in handcuffs is my fondest dream, but to have him taken care of by Adelson's rather unsavory "friends" in Macau would be a wonderful alternative. Unfortunately, Rove is probably just working on his next scam, totally unfazed and having suffering no reprecussions. That is the way of the wingnut welfare world.
Seeing Republicans spend so much and lose so many elections was fantastic. We still need to neutralize Citizens United and related laws, but this was one of many reasons the election was heartening.
The election results are almost enough to make me think that Citizen's United was a brilliant trap set for conservative billionaires to get them to waste all their money and get the cash they're hoarding back into economic circulation.
I saw one of Shmuley Boteach's ads played several times last weekend. The voiceover sounded like the guy introducing Torquemada in Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part I. They were very careful not to mention his party affiliation.
And as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:
