Before "Breaking Bad"
There was "Save the Tiger".
This movie came out 40 years ago.
40 years later, our political system has degenerated to the point where anonymous crackpot billionaires can fund a corporate raider's hostile takeover of the White House, and our media has degenerated to the point where they shrug this off as a trivial side-issue.
This is where I would normally smoothly transition to my 653rd (no kidding) column about the crown prince of our lickspittle press, but now that word has gotten out that the Big Box down the block has decided to go into that business as heavily as it has already gone into what was once one of my other major product lines, my board of directors has scheduled an "urgent" Friday meeting to discuss "the future of this anachronistic little single-shingle operation".
To date, I have never been summoned to an urgent Friday meeting that ended well :-)

It wasn't a fluke. It wasn't pilot error. It wasn't instrument failure. This is what Republicans wanted, and now they have a...

A little offtopic but I wanted to let you know someone has your back regarding David fucking Brooks.
If I am really lucky, and get twelve consecutive minutes in any given day, there are 5? or 6? blogs I consider "must read" lined up on my shortcut bar: In no particular order: You, C&L, Charlie Peirce, Rude Pundit, Jesus General, Cesca(for sheer volumn and chartage..) and an occasional glance at H.P. (cuz..you know..side boob)..oh and Cracked (because god knows I need a non-sardonic laugh after Huffpo).
Only you and Peirce ever spend any time on the what a giant crap hole of toadyism not just the MSM has become, but how much of a clown college for billionaire stooges the "intelligentsia" has degenerated into....but when I need to see some slayage of hypocritical religious or political dogma done with a meat cleaver.. there are other options.
In any case,I really hope you don't close out those particular lines of your inventory just because Best Buy is bursting with customers! Where will we go when we have to have that old Zappa L.P. nobody carries anymore?
P.S. Sorkin's new show used your "joke" in last weeks episode ...paraphrased of course..but hey..I'd sue..HBO has deep pockets!
I agree with blackdaug! Pierce's adoption of your two longstanding lines is really a tribute to your work. And your voices aren't identical. Two flavours are better than one.
To quote Lord Barys from Game of Thrones "The King won't give you any honors. The histories won't mention you. But we will not forget."
Nothing good at the movies, Drifty.
PLEASE don't stop writing about Brooks and the Sunday a.m. clown parade! I look forward to reading both you and CP. I would just echo the other commenters and add that the more pile-on the better. It does NOT EVER get boring or repetitive!!
Drifty,
Do you really WANT that kind of traffic? Really?
Perhaps Charlie can send you some coin in tribute to the work you've done in farrowing the field he now plows so steadily?
At least he has a large megaphone - something of need if the fools such as Brooks are to be taken down off their perches.
In the meantime, I know you could use the coin and most definitely deserve the praise. So here is my PRAISE! And the coin comes separately to the post office box!
Stay strong and keep on writing...

PS - and what blackdaug said!!!
No matter who writes about DFB, you're still the best. No only do you (and Blue Gal) crack me up, you make me think. Please carry on.
But you did just get a link and extended quote from digby.

It's inevitable that two great minds concentrating on the same subject will produce occasionally repetitive results. But they're not identical results, and the one voice shouldn't discourage the other voices.
IOW, what blackdaug said.
