That's a bit eerie - I just finished Doktor Maddow's book on the bus ride home this morning ... don't worry, I won't give away the ending for anyone who hasn't checked it out yet.
I think she's too sanguine about solving the "unmooring" of the military, & that a sequel is needed demonstrating the ways in which the Pentagon has become a vehicle for subsidizing certain high-tech corporations, & how much those corporations now run the show (including foreign policy).
That said, it's actually a hell of a worthy read ... & I love seeing the TeeVee shackles off so she can use cuss-words & go into detail in a way that a 10-15 minute program segment makes problematic.
Ms. Maddow's book would likely make for more enlightening reading material than the series of Star Wars paperbacks currently taking up my reading time!

I assume this is the classic Daily Show "Potato Day" clip Driftglass refers to:

Incidentally, The Daily Show's Wyatt Cenac actually noticed the birth of a brand new third party called "Republicans" as early as February 2009:

DG;
Those people are not re-programable. They're stuck where they're at.
But, they are humans. More specifically, they are authoritarians. They enable their fascist leaders.
That is why they aren't re-programable. They always look to the fascists in society for their beliefs. You can't change that.
