Jolly Green Giants

Walking the Earth.

With guns.

(NSFW video to accompany the picture here.)

Atrocity is another piece of war's standard equipment.

No one wants it, no one authorizes it, everyone disavows it, but it is as predictable as the sunrise.

And that is reason #763 why no one but a fucking lunatic advocates unleashing a war unless there is absolutely no other choice.

It is also why chickenhawk warpimps belong in the sewer-fringes of our media culture gurgling out their bloody-minded insanity on low-wattage radio and badly mimeographed newsletters instead of in places of inexplicable media prominence long, long after they have shown themselves to be

 dead fucking wrong about everything.

Exactly! And nobody fucking knows or cares because the message continues to be controlled by the same.

"Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won."

So wrote the Duke of Wellington after the battle of Waterloo. It's a pity your chickenhawks don't read serious history books.

There are two problems.

War makes a lot of money and it also creates a new "lowest" class that even our poor classes can look down upon (not in derision so much as their relative positions).

Capitalism is one giant ponzi scheme, and with the political climate being what it is today, the only acceptable government stimulus spending seems to be for war.

At this point, if we want fiscal stimulus, our government is going to have to go out and start killing the most inconvenient brown people it can find. Mutually assured destruction isn't a deterrent, it's a guarantee for our species.

Everyone chant "heroes, heroes" and click your heels three times. Before you know it, we'll have another couple of decades of pointless, inexplicable, trillion-dollar bloodshed, torture and horror in Afghanistan accomplished. Don't let our record of American atrocities end! Clap, American audience, clap!

Goddamn DG, that last sentence about low wattage radio and mimeographs... fucking perfect. You can turn a phrase better than Hitchens on crack.
