The greatest fictional conceit of "The West Wing" wasn't a polymath Democratic President with a Nobel Prize in Economics.
It was the existence of a Republican Party that wasn't a completely unhinged captive of Fox News and Hate Radio.

It was a brilliant solution.
Imagine having a Supreme Court like the one posited in that better universe: 2 liberals, 2 conservatives, and 5 moderates.
Hell, I'll settle for a Universe where the words "liberals", "conservative" and "moderate" actually mean something :-)
