Thinking of who's been in charge for the last eight years, the dark side prolly does.

Thanks, Dg.

Your images are hymns to the need for real change.

Great pic, Driftglass.

For the commentators who may have missed it, that's what a section of the US about the size of England suddenly looked like in the 5th Year of the Reign of BushCo The W.

It became a cliche after the Moon Landing to say, "If we can send a man to the Moon, why can't we..."

Some may wonder why America can't build flood protection systems to even a quarter as high a standard as the Netherlands. Why after a preventable disaster happened, we can't get basic water and food to citizens to keep thousands of them from dying in the houses and streets of their home towns and cities, leaving the corpses of America's fallen in the sun for days and weeks to be gnawed at by rats and stray dogs.

The answer, of course, is that we certainly could, but our leaders chose not to.

Bush's foot leaving the White House was a small step for Man but a giant one for Mankind.

If you look at the larger version of this picture, you'll note that the astronaut (Armstrong?) is not looking at the flag but at us. That's not supposed to mean anything except that that's a bit creepy.

And Armstrong never said, "All mankind" when he first set foot on the moon but that, of course, is what he meant.

I'm going to be writing about the 40th anniversary of the moon landing later on today but this picture will help redirect my thoughts. I'll question why we are spending billions planning on sending men to Mars when we have so much shit to do right here, starting with NOLA.

Do you mind if I use this picture, drifty?
