When the South Finally Rose Again

Who knew it’d be in the East?

From SF Gate:

McConnell says no to auto bailout

A big experiment is about to take place.

Senate Republicans are set to kill the Detroit bailout. Minority leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who was somewhat neutral until now, said today:

"Even if we grant that these companies would fail without taxpayer help, we would still have to ask ourselves whether the proposal before us achieves the goal that everyone claims to embrace -- namely, the long-term viability of ailing car companies -- and, in my view, it does not."

President Bush now has more clout with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi than with his own Republicans. The White House worked out a deal with Democrats and is now lobbying GOP members to no avail.

Commerce Secretary Carlos Guitierrez wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post today pleading for the bailout. "This is not the time for ideology," he said. Little late for that.

...

Meanwhile somewhere “Cunnel” Shelby (R-Asian Auto) and “Cunnel” McConnell (R-Banking/Insurance), discuss the prospects of Final Victory over the hated Yankees.

“Yes, suh, Cunnel Richahd, I do believe we may finally have those da-stahd-ly Northerners and their scallywag Ahmy of Unions

just wheah we want them.”

“I do believe, at long last,

you may be right, Cunnel Mitch.”

Because the antithesis of the Plantationocracy about which Conservatives have always dreamed is called the Middle Class.

Which is why they despise it and the organized labor that made it possible.

Mitch McConnell, a living breathing testament to the resilient stupidity of the populace of my ancestral state. He barely survived this last election, and now, like some crazed former apparatchik with a loose nuke in Belarus, he's going to complete the cratering of the economy so horrifically begun by Shrub. F**k!

Reaganomics will be known as an era bookended by two clumsy union busts. Rarely in history are epochs so cleanly delineated.

Nice flag Drifty!
Connal Mitch is even trying to fuck over his own constituents. Ever heard of a Corvette?
A niche market vehicle built by UAW workers in Bowling Green Kentucky.
Where Connal Mitch was elected to represent.

Calling him an asshole is giving him too much credit.

As was pointed out on an NPR interview with someone from the Center for American Progress, the only difference between the costs associated with the big 3 and the non-union Japanese plants in the south is that the latter have only been around for 25 years or less and haven't had the poor taste to actually have many retiring workers yet. Once they do, their cost structure will actually be higher than Detroit's.

If those workers lived in Japan they'd have a national health care system that covered them for life and none of the associated company-borne health insurance costs; I wonder how long until Japanese car makers decide it is too expensive to build cars in the US due to health care costs? Even then, you just know these 2 ideological fuckers wouldn't push for national HC; principles, you know.

Yes, yes, this is just becoming all too clear that's what they're doing.... and why. It also is connecting to the American Family fuckers who, under the guidance of that wildemon asshole, have engaged in a hate boycott of Ford for a couple of years because they hire teh gays and cheer every time their stock drops. I'm sure they're taking some credit for the current sitch. They're connected up with those suthren asshole union busters. They DO want their slaves back and they're doing a fine job at getting them in the form of the American worker.

This doesn't just pertain to union or nonunion workers in the auto industry. This attitude has pervaded our entire country .... that we should be evah so grateful to the man for allowing us to work for peanuts. When they quote this $75/hour "wage" the auto workers get, it's false. That's the cost to the company to have an fte. It has less to do with the actual wages and more to do with the employers contribution to the health care and other insurance policies, pension, and taxes. They're blaming the workers for expecting a living wage.... how dare they!

Where I work, for a state entity, they began a few years ago to include how much the employer's contribution is to these cost of doing business items on the pay stub as if to remind the worker via the guilt they should feel for burdening the enterprise like that. And if the pay stub reminder is not enough, they provide you with a yearly "Total Income Statement" that counts as income to the worker, the contributions made by the employers. "Lookit how much we have to pay to allow YOU to work for us!" is what they mean because there's no other reason for it. And then, they make you pay THEM to park where you work and repair or replace the breakroom fridge/microwave. And they have NO obligation to provide a safe or healthy working environment.... need to turn off the heat in winter they do it. Same with the cooling in the summer. Too fucking bad workers; be grateful we even allow you to work here!

This is all courtesy of the Republicans as exemplified by the assholes in your post. It's been pretty subtle, but with them showing their true colors here, as you nail Driftglass, they lose their cover of just how little they really value the workers of this country. The WORKERS who enable THEIR jobs, btw.

Sorry for longie post, but their intent here cannot be more clear and working people everywhere, union or not, auto or not, NEED to put these fuckers on notice! There are more of us than them yanno.

Fuck those fucking fucks.

And those 'chops of McConnell and Shelby are way too dignified for those loathsome dickwads. Bust out that Warp filter and add fifty pounds 'o puss to the guts of those traitorous sunzobitches.

Please excuse my reticence.

DG,

Once again, you simply amaze.

Myrtle Jane -- WORD.

I think its well past time for those long suffering Northern States to demand an EQUAL distribution of the Federal tax coin among all the states according to what they contribute to the till.

It would be much harder for Dick Shelby and Jeffy Sessions to give their foreign auto company friends tax concessions if Alabama had to pay its full and complete share of the Fed tax pie.

And as to Mitch (Mr. Secretary of LABOR!!!!!) McConnell and Bobby Corker, I hope their home state UAW folks decide to take some worker action and "visit them indefinitely" in their homes, their offices and their appearances.

GOP--- FYYFFS!!!!
