Cold Blooded Old Times

...and in this way
they gave you clarity.
A cold-blooded clarity.

However much clarity it may add to my store of wisdom, I find more and more it is not worth the price of being gutshot by the sad, sleazy side of human nature one more time.

Would the present seem so warm blooded without them?

Message is lost, and the music is . . . vapid. Lost.

Tell me you are not?

I like the idea of a fiddle, though . . . the rest is weak and lame parody of street theatre and protest.

Who IS this guy?

Once, a while back now, I remember hearing this song for the first time (studio version, a much more powerful performance), concurrent with a few older friends in mild freakout over the latest noise courtesy of Marilyn Manson and wondering what I thought about it all, being someone into music.

I reminded them that theater is theater, that they had their multiple versions of it in the 1960s that they should remember, and that if they really wanted a song from "today" that should scare them, this ditty was a good place to start.

In the correct context, it still is.
