Tiny probe hits small comet.

Universe imperiled.

So I’m hippity-hopping through this Peeps-based, empty-calorie fluffernutter that we’re calling “news” these days, on the way to some rockin’ good times with a pound of Silly Putty and all of the Sunday Funnies I have stacked up and unread around Castle Driftglass (they obviously have a deep, unresolved thing for each other, and major denial issues, so I was gonna let Cathy finally make sweet, sweet love to Mrs. Lockhorns) when, all-in-a-blur, my eyes skidded across the words “Russia”, “Lawsuit” “Astrologer” and “NASA” all within the same brief story.

We I did what you would do; I screamed like a frightened four-year-old and ran away, because those words do NOT belong together, Mister. No. No Sir!

Bad eye touch!

So I began wondering about how smart I had been, eating those pills I had found rolling around on the floor of "the “el” (See, I’m bench-testing this whole “the Universe puts what you need in your path” idea as uncritically as possible, because it seems sorta far-fetched and very much at odds with any concept of free will I’ve ever heard, but hey, I’m broadminded (hence the beautiful, Sapphic encounter I was planning for those two, sad, frustrated cartoon ladies.))

But I’m pretty well mentally-cofferdammed against most kinds of chemically-inspired crazy, so I took out my “Am I Losing My Mind” checklist and ran it down and I’ll be damned if I didn’t profile out as loco, but no more so than any basically sane person living in a mad world, so good for me.

Looked like the “el” tablets were just rogue Ikes and Mikes, or maybe some aglets off of a pair of huge sneakers. Or what was left over after you clean and gut a couple of Swedish Fish.

And it looked like those words really were all co-located within this same story for non-recreational reasons.

Here’s the story, via the Associated Press:

Russian Astrologer Sues NASA Over Comet

Tue Jul 5, 7:51 AM ET

NASA's mission that sent a space probe smashing into a comet raised more than cosmic dust — it also brought a lawsuit from a Russian astrologer.

Marina Bai has sued the U.S. space agency, claiming the Deep Impact probe that punched a crater into the comet Tempel 1 late Sunday "ruins the natural balance of forces in the universe," the newspaper Izvestia reported Tuesday. A Moscow court has postponed hearings on the case until late July, the paper said.

The probe's comet crash sent up a cloud of debris that scientists hope to examine to learn how the solar system was formed.

Bai is seeking damages totaling 8.7 billion rubles ($300 million) — the approximate equivalent of the mission's cost — for her "moral sufferings," Izvestia said, citing her lawyer Alexander Molokhov. She earlier told the paper that the experiment would "deform her horoscope."

NASA representatives in Russia could not immediately be reached for comment.

Hmm. Nutty, anti-Science “religion”? Boundless greed? Completely unfazed by publicly saying crazy shit in front of a hundred cameras? And to the best of anyone’s knowledge, has never taken any documented position on abortion?

Is it just me, or does this just scream “Bush Supreme Court Nominee”?

A brilliant suggestion for a nominee. She's a dark horse, though: 20/1. (This is a fake trackback from http://semiquark.blogspot.com/2005/07/supreme-beings.html)

Dude, you are too funny! Of course the impact of that probe did have an impact, but since Uranus is currently retrograde we should expect un-expected, dramatic shifts in consciousness.

Speaking of which, if you really want to get past your mental-cofferdamnation I can put some stuff in your path that will do the trick.

Supreme Court for this gal? I don't think so, since she acknowledges the interrelationship of science and intuition.

Driftglass - you are missing the true potential of this. We are now in the beginning stages of a new science: applied astrology. In just a few years, we should be able to manipulate comets, asteroids, and small moons to induce personaility traits in newborns.

A carefully calculated meteor shower can overcome the effects of a retrograde Mars to prevent the next Hitler from being born. A few careful nudges on a comet as it passes Venus can insure that 50% of girls born between 7:05 and 9:00 GMT on August 5th 2008 grow up to look exactly like Rosario Dawson

The benefits are incalcuable

I'll join US Blues in expressing the extremely unpopular minority opinion and say that regardless of the fact that a rational explanation is sorely lacking for astro-correspondences and astrology tends to do poorly in empirical tests of its contentions, I continue to find surprising correspondences in myself and other people between their behavior and the positions of the Sun and Moon and groupings of planets in conjunctions and stelliums (conjunctions of three planets or more). For instance, having a good working knowledge of what "Taurus Sun, Pisces Moon" means will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from me. (With Saturn in Aries in semisextile within one degree of orb to my Moon being a pretty significant complicating factor.)

As for predicting the future with planetary motions in relationship to your natal chart, I'm very dubious about that. This will give you a sense of the broad spiritual themes at work in your life at the moment at best. And even then, you are free to ignore those themes to your heart's content (though ignoring the ones that are trying to tell you something important and about which you need to do something may adversely impact your well-being).

Comets and asteroids and planetoids are of very little consequence. And even if they are, if one of them gets destroyed, how would it impact your natal chart? The object was still there when you were born. If she means her predictive horoscope, still, she probably has far more substantive and immediate things in her life meriting her concern.

But you have to admit she might be onto something with the upsetting natural balances of the universe part. I mean, the feds are so beyond high crimes and crimes against humanity now. I kinda like the accusation that they're an offense to the entire universe. Has a ring to it, don't you think?

Amurika has been there done that, and somehow survived. Remember how major governmental decisions for years were vetted by Nancy Reagan's astrologer? No matter how fevered your imagination and no matter the quality of the chemical induction, the Republicans are always waaaaay ahead of you.

loveandlight- thanks for sharing, now I understand you SO much better. Truly. That Pisces Moon will make you quite intuitive, but you already know that ;-)

Sure the elites know science runs both the discovery of new military weapons (wheee!) and economic developments. And, as I endlessly point out to my "I love God's Own President Bush who shares MY values and beliefs!!!!!" you might notice that while loading up science panels with "faith based believers in well...not science exactly" Our Glorious Leader's children didn't go to schools that teach "creation science"

I've always hoped someone curious might take a look through the enrollment patterns of all the other "what the hell, evolution? creationism? sure, teach magical thinking! its the moral choice!" promoters' children. Philips Andover doesn't teach crazy subjects nor does Yale or upper-end public or private high schools in Dallas or D.C. or Boston.

Your future leaders and upper managers are getting a class-based education like never before. Like everything else, its a form of privatizing the commonweal and privatizing socio-economic mobility. Those "meant" to manage or rule in the next generation are being prepared to deal with the real world because they can afford to---in many places still you can get that real science education for free but at the rate that "I.D."---I won't distinguish it by full name---or "creation science" is being let in public schools, its only a matter of time. But Our Glorious Leader and his enablers in politics and business are no more effected by those idiot curriculum changes than they are by changes in abortion laws. They can pay for a different reality.

Its part of the distruction of the middle class.

*standing ovation*

Very nice! Very nice!

According to my roomate, this astrologer attempted to get an injunction against the project when deep impact (*insert mandatory Beavis and Butthead giggle*) was first announced.

Anyone else hear about it?

Honestly, I buy astrology, but I buy it in the same way that I buy Runes or Tarot. That is, as a tool for self-examination and spiritual growth. Both are symbol sets that mark starting points, not hard and fast rules, and certainly not a reliable tool for predicting the future. Otherwise, we'd have a lot of Pagans winning the lottery.

For the record, I'm an Aries sun with Pisces rising and a Gemini moon. As my friend said, "You must hate yourself."

Mister Roboto said...

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add, Cancer Rising too.

Can I be your resident tin foil hatter, that everyone can snigger at at laugh at when I'm not around? Please?

Is it as crazy as it seems to say the Rise of the Bush Family seems to be entirely based on the fact the msm is at their beck and call, whenever needed, to distract and distort as told?

Can it have anything to do with Bush being appointed Nixon's CIA director and Operation Mockingbird not actually being erased from our democracy?

Wouldn't it better explain the lameass excuse we have for "journalists" these days, rather than abject inanity? Compensated Stupidity, is there an easier job for the morally impaired? No ONE can be as consistantly wrong, and remain in power or keep their jobs, unless a conspiracy was in place.

Colonel Sam Gardiner, who has credentials you can accept or deny as credible, states his research into Pentagon spending uncovered $200 million funneled to msm to propogate the rhetoric, inflate the propaganda, to create the climate of fear to invade Iraq. He is a former instructor at the Army War Collge, the Naval War college, the Air Force War college, as well as the National War College. Not my cup of tea, but he seems honest enough.

Silver Lining Moment Of Notice:

A Fucking majority of us Americans, after this nonstop BS deluge, STILL wanted UN sanction of our invasion.

MOST of us still have COMPASSION. Intelligence raising, and enlightening of the ignorant, follow compassion.

Now, we need to get serious.

We have a growth to remove from our fine country, and to put the goodship Liberty aright.

I say we all vote for anyone BUT a democraty or republican in 2006 for a start. That's only a year away.

If the elections are rigged again (I am self-declared resident tin foil hatter here, I turned half a century in years this week, so you'll have to suffer through this like the driftglasser did when he was wishing the head would explode on someone ranting on at a town hall meeting;<), so I declare the vote RIGGED without question. Rigged.

See, isn' that easy to take? Now, I can be pointed at, and you can all be the tolerant liberals, and say you suffer through the old man's rants, yeah?

If 2006 is rigged, and nothing changes, it is time to "put on the game faces", friends.

btw, did anyone see that article on Raw Story, a BBC link, about how the British Cops were peeved at the NY cops for releasing specifics of the "terrorist bombings" in London 7/7/05?

Let me ask your perception of the "attackers" first. Got that mental image that msm left you on that horrible day ( My Thai honeybunny is now in NY, she left London because her employer felt afraid in London)? Of suicide bombers, yeah?

Now explain to foolish old farang how it is the NY cops are saying the London bombs were set off my remote control.

Fer crissakes, figure it the fuck out. That's an 8/7/05 link at Raw Story.
