I don't know if it's exhaustion from decades of frustration but the comments I see across the online universe that bother me the most these days is the subject of this podcast. Way more often than I should see for reasonably intelligent people are comments along the lines of "I hate Trump and the Republicans but the Democrats...". I get it because at this point I'm so mad at the Ds for their lack of resistance and inability to show the urgency for what's happening. Still, there's no legitimate 'both sides' argument to be made but I find myself on the hated side of social media comments when I point this out.
Well, since the "center" has been fictional all along, I guess I don't really miss the quadrennial sprint for it too much. Especially given that while that sprint was underway, all manner of hinky bullshit went on in the background that really undermined any "common sense"-ness that they were supposedly trying to sell us.
Wars and treachery and shit.
And that part isn't dying with the centersprint.
I still have hopes that one day we can get a firm enough grip on the levers of power (read that majorities in congress) to pass the sort of election reform that we almost got when Biden got in (Some day Manchin and Sinema will have graves to pee on), and the incentive structure can be modified back toward sanity enough to make the function that the centersprint performed obsolete, not just the sprint itself.
Thank you again for the podcast. JD Vance got booed at the Olympics, and it seems to me that we have almost fully traded places with Russia circa 2006. Sure we have capable and inspiring athletes, some of whom are at the pinnacle of their sport, but it's just damn hard to get behind them when their country is led by a monster.

What's Left of the Anti-Monitor (screaming out of Qward's sun): “SUPERMAN!
I…WILL…NOT…DIE…UNTIL…YOU…DIE…WITH..ME!”
Kal-L of Earth -2: “Can’t anything stop him?! His body is destroyed but he keeps coming back! He’s a fireball… a living, killing fireball! No more…nothing matters any longer. I want to see him destroyed!" (shatters the Anti-Monitor with a punch) "I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!”
