Ep 888 Suffering No Fools At The Cornfield Resistance!

April 01, 2025

AKA There Is No Trump without Newt.

In episode 888 of The Professional Left Podcast, hosts driftglass and Blue Gal dive into the political landscape of April 1st, 2025, where April Fools Day is effectively canceled at the Cornfield Resistance due to the real Fool occupying the Oval Office.

The hosts examine how Republicans have weaponized language over decades, tracing the destructive path from Newt Gingrich's slash-and-burn politics through Rush Limbaugh's hate radio to Trump's presidency. They contrast this with Democrats' constant pressure to be "civil" and "bipartisan," recalling Senator Durbin's tearful apology for his anti-Gitmo torture comments while Republicans never apologize for anything.

Also covered: Senator Cory Booker's filibuster against hate, the White House Correspondents' Association's capitulation by canceling comedian Amber Ruffin, Elon Musk's dangerous plan to replace the COBOL code running Social Security payments, and a news roundup featuring Trump's latest attacks on democracy—from Signal-gate to tariff impacts, DEI funding cuts, and threats to the Smithsonian.

Don't miss this sharp, unapologetic analysis of why "talking to the other side" isn't viable when the other side has abandoned democratic principles entirely.

Do you remember a conversation we had, roughly 15 years ago, at the Eleven City Diner on South Wabash about Democratic prospects? I do. I asked you to name somebody, anybody, who you respected and felt was praiseworthy. You answered with one name, Cory Booker. Now, can you pick some Lotto numbers for me please?

I may be a bit critical here . People like me have to endure the renditions of the past with time line of how the right wing got here and forced people as I to endure their insanity.
Oh sure, the RNC eventually will blame Trump to hide their unbridled support for all his inanities that harm real people.
Realizing there are many who either did not pay attention over the years or are to young to live through it and haven't been exposed to any of the history lessons of the right wing past.
I know how we arrived with MAHA via the TEA party BIA the John Birchers.. The unholy alliance of certain religious organizations and the republican political party over religious beliefs that defy our 1st Amendment of Freedom from religion and Government not establishing religion. The wealth y greed of the right to use government to make them even more wealthier if busting unions to federal minimum wage setting and all deregulations on them but allowing laws that make bank robbery against wealthy folks against the law as a crime while those banks can steal from the people.
There SCOTUS justices rule that violent people with history of violence may purchase and own weapons to commit mass shootings of the most killings as fast as possible yet they get a mailed threat and tax payers must pay for an abundant of security to keep those same judges protected from the law they ruled to be legal. That security is in defiance of the legal right they made for the very people to own those weapons not to own or carry around them.
To end my rant. My humble opinion is what we can use more of is what are the options we have to counter the right today. In all aspects of their agenda from political power to their propaganda damaging the vulnerable into their frenzied zombies to mindlessly support any bull they are fed.

Like , now that the right wingers found out that not all government civil servant employees are the liberal deep state. That republicans are part of that illusive Deep state.
I would tell you, if I was an employer considering hiring a former republican civil servant who got fired and is pissed off having to seek new employment after voting for the political party that did it to him but thought his guy would do it only to his hateful political "enemies" (not opposition) there is a difference.
For someone of that character, I would not hire them because of their self destructive problems and their inability to work with others.
I t would be as hiring an anti union employee into a union work environment. It will negatively reduce efficiency of my production.
Guess I am suggesting providing historic victory outcomes that are useful to counter this mess today.
We know when a shopper accidently drops a bottle of something and it breaks and goes all over the floor.
There is clean up on that aisle.
We need more call directives for clean up on the aisle.

File this under "Seriously?":

WaPo posted an article on April 2 titled " Trump Announces 10 Percent Tariffs On All..." The last three paragraphs of this article merely consisted of reactions to and quotes about the tariffs from Newton Leroy Gingrich. And only him.
