A Reader Asks, "Tell Me This Trip to 2005 Isn't Going To Be All David Brooks".

Rest assured, no, it's not.

Brooks comes up often over the decades because he was the most committed, effective and ubiquitous Conservative operative inside the establishment media.  A middleman -- sort of the Right wing's pet PBS Mennonite.  And it was my opinion then (which has proven out over time) that men like Brooks were much more dangerous than, say, a fully-outed thug like Tom DeLay.

Brooks' job was to sell Conservative's poison to the Center: to reassure the Moderates and “Reagan Democrats” and to coax the Undecideds into the Windowless Fundy Panel Truck by dandying their evil up in perfumed NYT-speak.  And it was my judgement, since the battle for the future of the country was going to take place in the middle, that these respectable, mainstream elite media zealots-in-sheep's-clothing like Brooks were the ones that deserved extra-special attention since their propaganda didn't trip the Limbaugh or the Fox News alarm.

Now let me show you the card I palmed :-)

The question which was asked of me is actually a slight rewording of a question I was asked 20 years ago.  And my reply is a lightly rewording of what I wrote about the situation back then.  It ended as follows:

The good news is, BoBo obviously doesn't know he's an idjit. Instead, he thinks he's tricksey, which is why he keeps obligingly waddling into the thresher blades.

And No Forgetting Without Atonement.

Brooks, not twenty but ten years ago [April 21, 2015]:

"Along comes Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Rubio, 43, doesn’t just speak in the ardent patriotic tones common to the children of immigrants like himself. His very life is the embodiment of the American dream: parents who tended bar and worked at Kmart with a son who rose to become a United States senator. His heritage demonstrates that the American dream is open to all who come here legally and work hard. He is what many Republicans want their country to be."

Tell that to Kilmar Abrego Garcia's kids. To them personally, to their faces.

Damn you both, Brooks and Rubio. Pathetic, empty-suited cowards.

I would not turn to Brooks for thoughtful information, stimulating opinion of factual information to consider.
Take the president Lumby's statement over getting rid of the Dept of Education. He put it, " I am going to send education rights back to the states".
Thing is, Dept of Education enhances state education and did not take state authority to manage it from DC down to the states.
I am sure Brooks could wordsmith Lumpp's excuse for hiring the big time wrestling industry wife to be his Sec, of Education when the order is shut down and erase the Dept of Education. You do not require a tax payers to pay and provide health care and all to a Sec of education to close the Dept of Ed. down.
Just these of Ed statement on children learning to use A-1 steak sauce being so great.
While they say they are erasing the ED dept. President Lumpy is solely now running around the country ordering state educations to do what he says. Which in my book is not sending it back to the states.
Brooks writings is familiar to most every GOP congressman's non response to you inquire if they respond. That leaves you with no clear answer.

Mea culpa, and you're not the only one, but I've bee skipping over Bobo Beatdowns since ... oh, I don't know: 2005. I appreciate you put it in the headline and I don't inadvertently see it, but it's ingrained now: scrolling along and my Evelyn Wood trained eye sees Bobo and my finger doesn't even stop turning the wheel on the mouse

Noting personal, I was sick of him before blogtopia ...

I know y'all are boycotting MSNBC so I thought I would come tell you that professor Steven Levitsky was just interviewed by Rachel Maddow and mentioned that "even David Brooks is calling for society to rise up..." (I'm quoting from memory here) and from the tone of his voice it appeared to be a statement akin to "even the village idiot knows that."

The amazing thing about Brooks to me is his ability to snow people into thinking that if they agree with him that somehow that makes them enlightened centrists. I think I've read maybe 2 columns by Brooks in the last 10 years, each one to confirm that he's never worth reading, and going to the comments section is a trip into alternaverse. People with hoity toity attitudes about intellectually sober thinking and praise for the man for being a beacon of light in a world of extremism on the left and right. It almost gets a bigger rise out of me than the actual fascists.

NYT Columnist David Brooks Calls for ‘National Civic Uprising’ to Defeat Trumpism – Complete With ‘Mass Rallies, Strikes’

From D Kos (copu % paste)
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2025/4/17/2317122/-David-Brooks-is-calling-for-a-National-Civic-UPRISING-really-he-is?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=trending&pm_medium=web

Why isn't Brooks calling for rallies and such on both sides?

Oddly, Brooks is calling for other people to do something. Calling for Democrats to protest against themselves and GOP?
Why does he speak out to his GOP?
Is it his adherence to Reagan's 11th Commandment?
