Good afternoon DG and BG. I'm not sure if the thumbnail image on your YT channel is supposed to evoke the image of a grave. It did for me, and I found it incisive and threateningly relevant.

Thanks for all you do.

"Dumpster Fire"
Hey Driftglass, I have been listening to your podcast for years, and I’m in agreement with most of your opinions. There is one thing that makes me cringe; everytime you say that you coined the term “dumpster fire” and that people need to credit you when they use the term.

The term “dumpster fire” was in common usage in my community way back in the mid 60’s.
Perhaps a little background is in order. I graduated from high school in 1967. I grew up in a rural area in southern Maryland where the US Navy during WW2 built an air field to test aircraft. During the 50’s and 60’s there were many aircraft crashes related to the Naval Air Test Center’s testing programs. In addition to the base, the Navy also built a small town to house the people who were recruited to work at NATC Patuxent River. In this town, one area had dumpsters.
As in many rural areas, the local fire departments was staffed by volunteer fire fighters. When ever there was a fire many of the volunteers were in my high school. The fire trucks would pull up in front of the school before they went to the fire. When those students returned to school we all wanted to know where the fire was and if there was another plane crash. Quite often the response was “just another dumpster fire”

When I graduated from HS, I went to work at NATC. The term “dumpster fire” was in common usage and meant the same thing as “cluster fuck” just less vulgar.

It is my belief that once a term is introduced in the military, it spreads around the world. Just because it had not appeared in the media does not mean it was not part of the language.

Mitch the fuck McConnell relies on the integrity of the judiciary to be able to subvert it with bullshit interpretations of regulations.
He needs that integrity to do the evil he does. Without it, it might punch back.
I am not surprised at all that the media is obeying in advance, but I have taken note of their enthusiasm for doing so. It seems like one of the only things they are halfway good at these days.
Paul Krugman has resigned from the New York fucking Times. I had a digital subscription to them so I could read him. His newsletters used to not be behind the paywall and you could read his columns if you deleted your cookies first.
Then the clamped down and blocked all of that and offered a digital subscription for $4/mo. As of this year they had raised that to $20, then they went and pissed me off badly enough that I cancelled and will never, ever give them another penny.
Paul is on BlueSky and is making noises about writing somewhere with less constraint on his content than the NYFT. He said he is writing his "So long and thanks for all the fish" column. Not only do I find his writing valuable (at this point I feel comfortable having a conversation about economics) but I also discovered some of my favorite bands at the bottom of his newsletter.
Thank you again for the podcast. After the United Healthcare CEO was murdered and all of the stories of ruined lives because of their automated 32% denial rate started spilling out in a wave non-sympathy, I read somewhere that FAFO was evolving into the age of the pitchforks...
