David Brooks' Big Convention Moment

Are you familiar with Just the News?

It’s an app for your phone on which you can conjure Conservatives creeps like Victor Davis Hanson and John Solomon whose bio informs us that he “helped unravel the bogus Russia collusion scandal”.  And remember Gary Bauer?  The Right Wing evangelical garden gnome who sorta ran for president that one time?  He’s there too!

Well, as you may or may not know, David Brooks of The New York Times is about two feet tall, so there Brooks was, wandering around the United Center, hoping anyone who recognized him wouldn’t be me,  trying not to get trampled underfoot, looking for anyone who would put a camera in his face and ask him questions, when Senior Just The News Correspondent Nick Ballasy swooped in.

Mr. Ballasy has previously worked for  the Washington Examiner and Pajamas Media, so y’know, just reeks of credibility.

There’s video of this, but you have to sit through a very sketchy “Liver Health Supplement” commercial read by John Solomon, Editor-in-Chief of Just the News.  I watched the whole thing so you won't have to, and believe me, you don’t want that in your life.  It’s two and a half minutes featuring the most ubiquitous elite Conservative pundit in America bitching to a fourth-rate, right-wing rag about how the Harris people are running their campaign, and about the imaginary price controls which Kamala Harris did not propose.

"I think the problem with not doing the media, it's like when Biden didn't do the media, he wasn't ready when he had to do it. So they should be letting her do it just so she gets the practice in. So I just think it's a short term thinking," Brooks told Just the News earlier this week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

He also called candidates engaging reporters "routine."

"Like a normal candidate. It's routine," he said. "You talk to the reporters wherever you go, and you can start out with local  [Associated Press] reporters, local TV, but she's got to do a big sit down interview."
Brooks also speculated that Harris as the Democrats' presidential nominee for four weeks now has yet to hold a formal sit-down interview or press conference because of the" excessive faith in social media that a lot of campaigns have."

"They're heavily online," he said. "They think everybody's online, but it's just not true. I mean, big TV, big network TV, those numbers are still huge. It's a new politics. They don't have to talk about policies anymore. They don't have to give interviews. It's a different kind of campaign than it used to be.”

Does the story end there?  Oh my goodness no!

Because David Brooks being interviewed by a fourth-rate, right-wing rag about how the Harris people are failing is Big News in wingnut rag circles, which is why the story was picked up and amplified by…yet another fourth-rate, right-wing rag!  Real America’s Voice!  From Wikipedia:

Real America's Voice is a right-wing to far-right streaming, cable and satellite television channel founded in 2020 and owned by Robert J. Sigg. The network and online presences have promoted right-wing and far-right conspiracy theories, including COVID-19 misinformation, 2020 election conspiracies, and QAnon.

Some of the network's top personalities include Steve Bannon, Charlie Kirk, Ted Nugent, Gina Loudon, John Solomon, and Frank Gaffney.

And here's a Fun Fact: their most recent streaming video is called “The Abortion Demons vs. Jack Posobiec”.

So screw the Aspen Institute and Davos, David Brooks.  Now you’ve really hit the Big Time.

Because, as we talked about on the Professional Left podcast earlier this week, there is a long-running, toxic codependent relationship between elite mainstream Conservative pundits, and MAGA sewers like Fox and  Real America's Voice and Just the News.

This DNC has been so bad for Brooks, I thought this article would be about a different atrocious thing I saw a video of him saying this week.
