"Normalizing" is just another step in their assault on expertise that threatens their goddamn orange cult leader. In this case the expertise is human decency and good citizenship, but really, all expertise that could potentially contradict Fergus and thus threaten his authority must go.
Also, the idea of suppressing the normalization of Fergus among the "fuck your feelings" crowd is a bit late.
Who is your audience is a key question, and at the root of why the media is so fucked in the head right now. On the one hand, there are the sane people, who never seem to be the target demo but remain numerous enough to make alienating them a political risk. On the other are the slavering fascists who must still be employable enough to make advertisers want to pay for their attention.
Problem is that this has gone way, way past Mr. Jordan's epiphany that Republicans buy shoes, and closer to the "there might not be a society left to wear them."
Also, as Blue Gal is probably aware, normalization is an audio process in which the loudest part of a passage is set at 0db, thereby setting the passage at its loudest setting before distortion sets in. There's probably a joke in there, but if so, it's above my pay grade.
