Mathoms from the Age of Droneglass

Several years before the Republican party handed the keys to Donald Trump (because that's how we mark time now apparently) I began a regular feature on this little blog pointing out that Glenn Greenwald, the World's Greatest Journalist, was not, in fact, a man to be trusted.

This was not something that many of my erstwhile allies on the Left wanted to hear, and as a result I was subsequently excommunicated from the Lefty Circle of Trust (I was never really in it to begin with so boo fuckin hoo) and my comment section began to fill up with almost daily with angry droppings by the Spleenwald Purity Horde.  

My traffic dropped by about 1/3 as did contributions to this little blog of mine.  But I'm a stubborn cuss, and I just kept not shutting up.  

This went on for quite a while, getting exponentially weirder and more darkly entertaining as Bolshi Freedom Troll Greenwald spiraled further and further down into the pit of incentiary raving.  The quarter of a billion dollars his internet sugar daddy had given him suddenly had strings attached.  The internet media company he had started decided that ol' Glenn needed some editorial limits put on his increasingly embarrassing bleatings.  Then he was fired from/quit that internet media company because Freedom of Speech.  Then, after he went on a towering jeremiad about the cowardice of people who delete their Twitter archives...he deleted his Twitter archives.

As all this was going on, the angry droppings by the Spleenwald Purity Horde got less frequent but progressively more brittle, strident and hysterical.

Then Glenn started showing up as Tucker Carlson's wacky "Liberal" sidekick on his Fox News White Power Hour, and thence on to guest spots on Laura Ingraham's atrocity.  And that's when the Spleenwald Purity Horde suddenly took up tatting or fly-fishing or hen-teasing some other activity that didn't involve telling me, "droneglass', what a wrong, stupid, awful, drooling, jackbooted O-bot I was on a daily basis (and how dare a little, nobody blogger like me -- who was clearly motivated solely by jealousy -- impugn the reputation of the World's Greatest Journalist) but also didn't require them to walk back any of their Very Loud Opinions about Greenwald.  

And once it became clear that Spleenwald had fully committed himself to making common cause with some of the worst people on right-wing media, I folded the tent on my Greenwald social experiment and moved on to other things.  There was nothing more to prove.  And yet, every now and then feel a civic obligation to check in with Glenn (who blocked me almost immediately after he nuked his Twitter archive) to see what he's up to.  See if there's even a glimmer of anything decent peering out of the husk he has become.

The answer is, nope.

Same guy. Now apparently too garbage even for Fox News, he can be found on a tiny offshoot of Rumble.  From the Wikipedia:

Rise of  [Rumble] viewership in 2020 has been attributed to Representative Devin Nunes, who accused YouTube of overly censoring his channel. Nunes began posting content on the platform with other prominent conservatives, such as Dinesh D'Souza, Dan Bongino, Sean Hannity, and Representative Jim Jordan, following soon after.

I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.
