Yes, 'tis the season when all manner of bogus political wisdom is being flung at us like so much monkey poo at the zoo. "The feckless Democrats can't even capitalize on their own successes." vs. "Touting accomplishments literally turns voters away, polls worse than anything else we tested."
The polls are what they are and are worth what they are worth, and given their record in the last few election cycles, seem to have a margin for error of "monkeyfuck ridiculous" as one comedian once characterized it.
So what to do? Vote. We mailed our ballots in yesterday. This was a bit of a blah election out in these parts. Gavin Reptile will win. Alex Padilla will win, both the rest of the VP's term and the new one. Shirley Weber and Rob Bonta will win. Hopefully reproductive justice will be enshrined in the state constitution. Tom the fuck McClintock will beat the nice Democrat who left voicemails on my phone. The only interesting race was for county supervisor, and it was only interesting because of signage. One guy is a goddamn Republican, so there isn't any question about who to vote for, but the other guy doesn't list his party on his website. As a matter of fact, I was not able to determine his party after more than a half hour of serious Googling.
The signage, though. It is all over Oakhurst. Zillions of those bastards. One business had both of their signs on its wall. Mr. Republican's signs look like Trump signs, only with his name where the Trump would be. The other guy's signs have this circle on them with red rows of crops (this is really close to the central valley) and a couple of blue trees popping up behind them, and the resemblance to the Obama symbol is hard to miss. I hope he doesn't suck, because we voted for him.
I got a flu shot when we were in town yesterday also, the first one I have ever had.
I agree about the way the goddamn Republicans treat their voters. Not only lacks basic decency, but normalizes such behavior among too many who are making their own political identity. And as far as I can tell, the goddamn Lincoln Project is a naked attempt to do to the left what Fergus did to the right: cynically feed their propaganda back to them to get their support when they view that propaganda as bullshit. Perhaps if they magically get Fetterman, Ryan, Warnock, Demings, Beasley, Kelly and Cortez-Masto elected next month, I'll lighten up on them a bit, but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.
Thank you again for the podcast. It was supposed to rain today, so we did a bunch of preparations for it and I skipped my walk up to the mill pond, but as of yet no rain.
