Because I was an adolescent third-party "It's the system man!" purist contrarian before it was a for-profit industry.
My timing, as usual, was terrible.
Didn't even see the gold I was treading on with my own feet.

Registered as a Republican to vote for Anderson in the primary when he ran against Reagan. Reagan was, to me, very bad news for America and I feared his populist edge would allow him to win in the actual election.
My play didn't help but I always thought I did the right thing.
I'm still registered Republican. Down side: I can't vote in the Democratic primary. Up side: I get to see all the raw hate mailings and show them off to all my Democratic friends who imagine that the GOP can't be 'that bad'. Republicans, when they think they are only talking to party loyalists tend to let their hair down and show their fangs.
